Valdai Forum - Former France PM, Austria Chancellor, and Putin discuss current events

This is probably the most illuminating look at the view of global events from views outside of the dominant narrative in the western press.

It is not necessary to agree with Putin in order to listen and observe. It is a long watch - But extremely helpful in understanding the actors in world events.

Putin's initial speech is somewhat dry and the translation a bit difficult to follow.

Some people may want to skip to around minute 58 which starts with the former PM of France (in English) and afterwards proceeds into a question and answer format.

The second one is better translated (from RT)

A better translated (easier to listen to in MO) on RT (for those not averse to watching it there)

is an international discussion club formed in 2011 - by Russian experts to provide an international forum that enables enable debate on Russia's role in the world (summarizing in my own words). According to Wikkepedia article, Valdai has three main goals:

to create an international venue where foreign experts could receive information about Russia and Russian society from reliable sources;
to demonstrate the diversity of social and political views on key issues in domestic and foreign policies;
to give international experts an opportunity to meet with top Russian leaders

It is really excellent fodder for international relations theory and discussions and thank you so much for posting.
