Overshadowed by the Ukraine conflict next door, President Vladimir Putin's repressive policies are casting another shadow over freedoms in Russia. Urge Secretary of State Kerry to show solidarity with Russia's human rights community and take concrete action against the Kremlin's sweeping crackdown on human rights.

Sign the petition and demand Secretary Kerry to work with the European Union to call for the repeal of Russia's repressive legislation and to support Russia's independent human rights activists.
Petition to Secretary John Kerry

Secretary Kerry,

Acknowledging the staggering challenges of the Ukraine conflict, we cannot afford to ignore the increasingly repressive domestic policies that have restricted the basic human rights of Russia's citizens.

Leading up to the Olympics in February, President Vladimir Putin attempted to improve Russia's human rights profile on the global stage by releasing a few high-profile prisoners and lessening pressure on rights groups. But since the closing ceremony, he has spearheaded the most repressive anti-rights campaign since the fall of the Soviet Union

Billy Graham said ‘America is Just as Wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah Ever Were’ on October 16. And Putin in just putting on more pressure on some people. Hard to say what's going on. Putin is a member of the Russian Orthodox Church. I don't know anything about it. Maybe Putin is pushing for a theocracy. Putin has his own group to follow now with BRICS as his interest in the US's feelings slip away. The new cold war is building and that no doubt has a lot to do with it.

The Corruption of Human Rights Watch

Over the years, U.S. “public diplomacy” has pulled reputable NGOs into the U.S. propaganda orbit, sometimes via funding, sometimes by creating a revolving door to government jobs, as a letter from over 100 scholars suggests happened to Human Rights Watch. Followed by HRW’s response to the criticism.

The Valdai conference final panel (video posted earlier) was titled "New Rules or a game without Rules". What has happened is essentially the west has embarked on an a geopolitial effort where most any approach is justified (ends justifies the means). This now includes using false "concern" organizations and even using money and other pressure to compromise or otherwise push important rights institutions into compromising their approach or words.

This is what drove Russia to limit NGO activity. There are reasons that these actions happen. it is extremely important that many NGOs, especially Rights NGOs, are not compromised or unduly infulenced. This reduces their influence and hurts us all.

Just look at what happened with Dr.'s without borders, where intelligence operatives used the organization to hunt for Bin Laden. Now Drs in this overall very good organization are in a very dangerous place in some regions.
