2. My takeaway is the concept of "predatory capitalism."

Maybe there's a "good" version of capitalism--no, now stick with me for a second--a regulated version to make sure competition and innovation happen, and monopolies and cartels and "too big to fails" don't take over and allow the nastiest of people with the nastiest of motives to run things in the nastiest way possible. But what we have now is way closer to that "predatory capitalism," in which the nasty people prey on everyone else and don't care if they impoverish people or kill them or even destroy human civilization.

Imagine an alien world in which the most powerful aliens don't care if they are on a path that will destroy their civilization so long as they make a profit today. What a horrible world that would be! Spock would say, "They are behaving illogically." Kirk would say, "We're so lucky . . . humans in Earth's past . . . found a way . . . to avoid the fallacy of greed."

That is at the heart of where we need to work, it seems.

Suggesting that the crisis, or others, will come but the way we are acting right now makes surviving them much harder and more dangerous, and leaves more opportunity for the wealthy opportunist to carve out profits.

Interesting. Thank you for that.

cause of most of our problems. First, the fallacy of the poor being the cause of so much, they don't get much to begin with. The News portrays them in the worst light by reporting the worst examples as being the norm. No one talks about how to treat the poor and really work to reduce the number of poor by better education.
Corporations benefit by having a poor labor force that will work for less, they can easily replace anyone, as there are many more out there ready for a job. Corporations could care less, these working poor lead a miserable life, the media screws them, and no one has any plans to change this. We will be electing more gridlock to be bought and paid for.

L. Hunter Lovins. I am wondering how her idea of saving the world fits in with their ideas. They look at recreating the world we live in with environmentally sound ideas.
