she's pretty good.

But I doubt she has strong opinions about street preachers. I know the cameraman does, he's a sort of activist about it.

I personally believe the preacher has a right to speak, but without amplification.

4. "Wisdom"? I don't think so.

What if he'd been preaching the destructive nature of climate change? Of the need to make it easier, not more bureaucratically complicated, to vote?

The little girl was obviously -- obviously -- prompted and directed to behave rudely and ignorantly (yep, ignorantly). Not "wisdom". She puts me in mind of that old Broadway song (South Pacific, I think) "You've got to be taught to hate and fear . . ." Poor child, I think she has been.

(And I'm a non-believer -- after 16 years of Catholic schooling and a literally "sainted" Pope who actually condemned priests who worked for social justice, how could I be other?-- but I'd spend my time much more profitably conversing with the kid preacher, here, than trying to enlighten the sad little girl about the meaning, importance and significance of the concept of free speech.)

I'm not a believer and the microphone's pretty obnoxious, but oddly enough, I think the First Amendment and the verse from Matthew about loving your enemy share something important in common.

It's relatively easy to love your friends (usually!) and most people don't have a problem supporting and protecting speech they agree with. But that's what makes both the First Amendment and Matthew (5:43) so important. They both urge us to do something extremely difficult but, I think, essential: Protect speech even when you find it objectionable and love people you dislike or that hate you.
