that Thomas Jefferson owned 700 slaves over his lifetime. He freed only 10 of them. Five when he was alive and another five in his will after his death. Hardly a model of progressive thinking.

Post Jefferson "he seem to have forgotten" is a laughable statement to make about Hartmann. He's not forgotten. Read some of his books.

Jefferson's ideology, from the beginning of this country have become the message of how a democracy survives, which was set forth by everything written into the Constitution, not his 700 slaves, which I'm pretty sure he was aware of.
