(6,419 posts)Don't you have a Pootie-Poot video to post?
Some people here actually do care about austerity, poverty and the death and suffering of children. That seems to bother you a lot though ...... I wonder why?
And, I would bet 99% of posters here already know everything stated on this video, so I'm not sure what your big problem is? It's just common sense and caring a little bit about the history of countries enslaved to the IMF and World Bank and their owners.

(6,419 posts)Why don't you ever post something by a real journalist? We know why--because a real journalist might mention things you don't want to hear, might skewer some of your own heroes while skewering the IMF. And since you're someone who actually admired Gaddafi as some kind of anti-Western imperialist hero, probably lots of objective news reporting is going to step on your toes. Gaddafi's "revolutionary committees," public executions of the opposition...all good, right?
But by now you're snoozing again

(20,582 posts)Austerity kills and impoverishes those least able to deal with these robber-baron 'loans' to countries with gov'ts that are either corrupt already or have no political ability to fight off the horrendous consequences. Greece broke free after years of skyrocketing suicides, infant mortality, seizure of homes, businesses, 50% unemployment for youth - yet Ukraine was said to be slated to be patterned after Greece, a shining example. You have no compassion at all for these people, and I think I know why. Those who deny and defend the brutal economic ruin of millions of the most vulnerable around the world probably benefit themselves in some way from it.

(6,419 posts)wow. That came out of nowhere. Sounds like projection.
...probably benefit themselves in some way from it.
Please go on with your imaginings. What else do you think you know?

(45,984 posts)One more time with feeling, instead of an ad hominem attack directed at Mr. Pilger, please tell us what is misinformative about the work and what you think the correct facts are. That's a lot more productive and a lot less obnoxious.
Please take your time. It will require that you watch the video first, which will take you about an hour.

(20,582 posts)I just posted it for the ones here that actually laugh every time austerity and the IMF's deadly loans are brought up.
Seemed timely. (And I've read her book, it's excellent).

(20,582 posts)I used to (long ago!) believe the claims they were honestly trying to help these poor countries, but after they've (obviously) seen their tactics fail time after time in humanitarian terms, yet still push for it so hard in new nations not yet indebted, I've decided they simply have no concern whatsoever for all those they know will suffer. They're making their billions with these loans they know can never be repaid while opening up countries to foreign 'investment', which usually means complete outside corporate control, environmental destruction, low-wages and the kind of poverty Pilger showed in this film. I don't understand how anyone could make light of that ........ it's horrible.

(6,419 posts)right?

(20,582 posts)Get over it. The whole world knows what austerity and the IMF have done over and over ....... that you try SOOOOO hard to deflect from it is actually pathetic.
uhnope
(6,419 posts)What I am really deflecting is the fake progressive stance that uses the same old tired voices (Pilger, Hedges, Parry etc.) over and over as a kind of Trojan Horse--imitating progressive opinions, but representing the wacky anti-West dogma that supports actual fascists if they are anti-West (Putin, Assad, Gaddafi).
If they really cared about IMF policies, the propagandists on DU would be posting Klein or MSNBC, not Pilger and RT.
uhnope
(6,419 posts)That's why the propagandists on DU always post Pilger and not Klein

(20,582 posts)Santa. I believe I heard once he's against child suffering and poverty, starvation, death, disease - as the most vulnerable to these programs you're so in love with and defend with the stupidest shit I've ever seen on this board.
uhnope
(6,419 posts)I've never said a single word about these programs.
But you have to disparage me, and accuse me of stupidity, because you actually think Gaddafi was a hero for his stance against western imperialism. Right?

(20,582 posts)Over and over. And it's so transparent.
In your own words (thread after thread copy and paste) - "underpaid".

(6,419 posts)I pointed out that I never have, but you smeared me with the charge again. That's dishonest.
Furthermore, when I tell you what I am actually doing (post 26), you have only the childish response of "snore" (your default reply when you're wrong) which is also not honest debate.
Like I said, the dishonest tactics are plain for everyone to see, and we can leave it there. I'll give you last word. I recommend "snore."
polly7
(20,582 posts)no matter 'who' explains it ........... says everything.
Snore.

(139 posts)John Pilger was one of the best writers at the Guardian long ago when it upheld it's reputation. Today they are not quite what they used to be. I assume thats because they sold out an became more Americanised.
