(17,990 posts)...I remember it well from the Olympics back in the 60s and 70s. As a child of the Cold War, we hated those Soviets and that damn song. But there was Lake Placid, baby! My how the world has changed since.

(5,902 posts)They'd probably be very successful touring in Britain. East-meets-west usually goes over quite well in the U.K. (except among Tories and UKIP types).

(6,891 posts)religious ritual where I teach every morning called "a moment of silence" right after the Pledge of Allegiance. Everyone is expected to stop still wherever they are and be quiet. The devout bow their heads and pray. If I'm in my room I play the Soviet national anthem loud enough to be heard in the hall while I stand silent with my eyes closed and my head bowed.
