(57,936 posts)I wrote this reply to a post on the Republican debates, but the thread was locked.
It's great to make fun of the Republican candidates, but there is really nothing to laugh about.
***
Fascism/NAZIism in our country has now reached the stage in which there is consensus among the Fascists as to who the scapegoat on which they focus their united anger is going to be.
That is a danger signal.
Where is the Democratic response to all this?
Why aren't we Democrats excitedly talking about our upcoming debates? about fairness? about tolerance? about equality? about justice?
Why are we letting this Fascist bunch steal the headlines with their hate?
This is how we lose not just the White House but democracy.
This is why we are having an explosion of racism and hate.
And this is why that dangerous explosion could get a lot worse. There is no message to counterbalance this.
This is how you lose the power of a strong brand -- the Democratic Party brand. You fail to advertise. You fail to get your products on the shelves. You fail to allow consumers to choose whether they want the one with the calcium or the one without, the one with the raisins or the one without.
This is a big, big, big, big fail by the current Democratic Party leadership.
Acquiescence to Fascism/NAZIism strengthens it.
It is time for Democrats to get our message of compassion and working together out there loud and clear.
It is time for us to show America that we have several candidates and that our candidates agree on the basic direction for America but there are also disagreements among them.
It is time to begin to put the choices that we will present to America before the people.
The Democratic debates should begin AND SOON.
***
I have a theory on this (as I usually do; take or leave it but if you leave it, please explain why):
[iThe Democratic leadership is so dependent financially and personally on their positions of power and the money and inside knowledge and control it gives them, that they are terrified of early and frequent debates because they know that their chosen spokesperson will be shown as a poor debater, a slow thinker and that they who have put everything they are and have behind her will lose their power.
That's why.
C O R R U P T I O N !
***
We should be holding Democratic debates and getting on with this.
The Democratic leadership is utterly, shamelessly unwilling to allow us to have the national discussion about the direction of our party that early debates would permit.
***
Politics is about dissent an discussion, and the Democratic Party leadership is trying to silence that.
Let the debates begin!
Go, Bernie. Feel the Bern.

(17,505 posts)I'm sure there are plenty of messages from the Dems on this.
But how do you get the conservative owned media to cover it?
And I think the Dems should have scheduled debates.... even if (wisely) closer to the primary.... already and announced them.
I do like that Dems don't seem hysterical and so unhinged. Of course steady and thoughtful doesn't make spectacular headlines.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)only the Republicans have it together enough to have debates, that only the Republicans have a message and ideas.
Our Democratic Party leadership is failing us.
This is how and why we lost so big in 2014. Had the Republicans fielded a slightly more acceptable candidate, we would have lost in 2012.
Our message is milque-toast. We don't get it out there with energy and excitement.
It's so frustrating for me. Because we are the Party of the best ideas, but we don't share them so that the voters can see us for just how important we are for the country.
The leadership in the Democratic Party acts as though it has been kidnapped, has its hands and legs tied behind its back and dares not more, speak or offend its captors.
And who might those captors be? How about big donors.
I live in Los Angeles where movie billboards and ads are everywhere.
I saw an ad for a movie, Ready for ...... starring a famous actress who might remind a lot of people of one of our Democratic candidates. I haven't seen the movie. It probably has no parallel or relevance or tie to the Hillary candidacy, but when I saw the billboard, I realized what is bothering me so much about Hilary's campaign.
IT LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE A MARKETING CAMPAIGN, like a product roll-out. Hillary fans are going to hate me for this, but I suddenly saw Hillary not as a person, not as a president, but as a product. Her campaign is like a sales campaign for some breakfast cereal or something.
That first ad was straight out of a breakfast cereal commercial. Eat America's first breakfast tomorrow.
Sorry. This is going to be interpreted as another attack on Hillary. But it has nothing to do with her. It's the way her campaign is being rolled out. It's the Hollywood and Madison Fifth Avenue glitz of it. It really troubles me. A sales campaign, not an election campaign.

(17,505 posts)a slightly more acceptable candidate....like who?
Practically the same bozos are running again this year..... because they lost.
All these debates early on just get people tired of debates, and it doesn't look like the repugs have their shit together. It looks like another clown car...so full they won't have time to actually debate anything. Besides, we're gonna hear the same baloney we heard the last time about SS and immigrants, and activist judges, and how awful Obamacare is and how it's not working.
All the people who have decided to vote for the repugs already will be there all beaming and full of it. Independents however are just gonna notice the same ol' same ol'.
BTW.... we DID win in 2012. And the ACA is not as scary as it was in 2014. Plus they can't use the black man in the White House to scare people like they did in 2014. I remember every anti Kay Hagan ad was all about Obama and the ACA. You'd have thought Hagan was actually running the government from an undisclosed location! They lied and said she "cast the deciding vote for Obamacare!" Are they gonna be able to make anyone appear like Obama's minion in 2016?

The progressive liberals are the party with the best ideals. The Dem center and center right adopt a similar plan to the republicans economic plan.
Not so much when Obama was campaigning...he put forth some very good ideas...but most could not be followed through with as hoped for. Some things got through (like Obama Care.
The dems don't promote the progressive left ideas, because even though they are the best ideas, they don't believe they can win with them.
We really can't share them...until now with Bernie. Maybe now we finally have a chance.

How could one of our major parties have descended this far into insanity?
A one-party country is not a stable one. Two parties are needed so people can choose between opposing ideas of government.
In short, America is dysfunctional right now. And what really frightens the hell out of me is the chance that one of these Republicans could end up in the White House.

It would just be too sad to stay here seeing this great place destroyed on purpose by the ultra greedy 1%. Not sure where we'd go, have looked at several places. Right now Portugal is sounding pretty good, but we need to go there first and see if it's really as good as my cousin says.
Of course, I'm hoping sanity prevails and will do everything I can to help this occur. However big $$ got Scott a 2nd term here in FL, which i never thought could happen, so am certainly not 100% confident we can win in the general.

Christie the Cannibal. Primitive as everything. That New Jersey elected him governor does not say much good about New Jersey, and I have some wonderful friends from New Jersey so I am not intrinsically opposed to New Jersy. It's just Christie I don't like.

There actually ARE people who agree with them and nod enthusiastically over the most outrageous things they say. Yes, their negative ratings are high, too, but it really concerns me the sheer number of people who resonate to that kind of rhetoric. I fear this country is long past being a "more perfect union".
