What does it mean that bananas are slowly but surely going extinct? (There is an underground-fungus that destroys their roots and there seems no way to stop its spread. It has already wiped out the breed Gros Michel and is currently threatening the breed Cavendish. Scientists are trying to create genetic hybrids between bananas that are edible for humans and fungus-resistant banana-breeds that happen to be inedible for humans.)
