I always thought that People magazine was soft core porn, and so was the average movie. Not all of them, but a lot of them. Consider, for example "Joe Somebody" There just happens to be a scene in that movie with Julie Bowen walking around her apartment in her underwear. Or consider Trading Places and True Lies. Should we call Jamie Lee Curtis a "soft porn actress"? I mean she was both topless and wearing a mini skirt and heels in Trading Places.

So I will answer it. "Soft core" porn is the type you might see on some "racy blue Friday" cable channels after midnight. It features topless shots, bum shots, fake sex scenes, and brief frontal nudity, but no genitalia, no close up of penetration, in fact, no penetration depicted at all, no erect penis shots, no actual blow jobs.

In other words, porn without the (real) sex. Same lame sex-based plot lines; female cop moonlighting as hooker to make extra money/find out who really killed her partner, that kind of thing. Surprisingly big market for this kind of dreck, considering the easy availability of much more graphic "hard core" porn.

I believe it had its hayday in the era of cable tv looking too get a little (but not TOO) racy later in the evening.

This episode has probably been very good for her career. I never would have know about her otherwise.
