Related: About this forumWatch Barack Obama Joke About Black People Being Late
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are taking varying levels of heat over a joke they made during a scripted skit at a roast-style event for local members of the press. The joke involved wordplay around the expression CP Time, which is a reference to the stereotype that black people are prone to tardiness. The abbreviation stands for Colored People Time, but the punchline to the joke, delivered by Hillary Clinton, was a switch to Cautious Politician Time.
"COLORED PEOPLES TIME": Watch BARACK OBAMA Joke About BLACK PEOPLE Being LATE!!
late. But, you guys keep on asking
whether Im black enough. (laughter)
Uh-huh! Thats right! So, I figured
Id stroll in about ten minutes after
the deadline. (laughs)
Ive been holding that in my pocket
for awhile.
Context is everything, though, as evidenced by this clip of then-Senator Barack Obama addressing a group of black journalists in 2007, in which he nails the same theme and the crowd eats it up.

(45,251 posts)Of course, Sanders did not joke about CP time.
But, of course, months and months of hypocrisy and double standards have a stench.

But then, as the French so aptly say: "Les goûts et les couleurs, ça ne s'explique pas".
Loosely translated: "Individual tastes cannot be explained."

(45,251 posts)not to the fact that your pointless thread starter was repeating a subject that had been posted about before. Apples and oranges. The latter is mere repetition, which is a yawn, at worst; but constant hypocrisy and double standards are much worse than that.

Maybe the Hillary supporters you begged for help on this thread by falsely claiming that it was the Obama video being swarmed will show up and kick it for you. Bonne chance!

(3,111 posts)As for President Obama, I'm sure he cringed at their involvement, to be honest. I mean, he's actually a successful politician.
But I get it, perhaps some are hoping it skates by like this next scene. Of course, again, context is everything. Who was this film made by?
And then there's this funny performance by Terry Crews later in the film. Guess I can't completely stay mad. Hoping we can find a way to all come together for the greater good in the long run. And humor is one way to do it.

It's so knee jerk and nonsensical, "it makes DU suck," a favorite catch all comment of the Hillary alert stalkers.

(15,445 posts)Obama is on record using the CP joke back in 2007. Not hard to grasp.
And, the crowd loved it. Sure, he's black...but WAS HE BLACK ENOUGH? He wasn't sure, so he went there.
Note to Jury: "Black enough" is a direct Obama quote from the video in the OP.

(5,644 posts)The black president is now implying that black people are always late just to give Hillary and the mayor some cover? I guess I just don't get the joke.
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)I rather doubt that then Senator Obama used the joke with the intention of giving "future" cover to HRC and De Blasio.

merrily
(45,251 posts)And, say what one will about MannyGoldstein and his OPs, at least they had a point.
Obama made a joke about his actually being late by using the fact that many people were saying then that he was not sufficiently black to count as a black candidate?
And, somehow, that supposedly has something to do with two white people who were not late and whom no one was dissing about their skin color doing a prepared joke about CP time?
Why is grasping the concept of false equivalency so difficult for a certain segment of the political continuum? If two things seem somehow superficially similar, close enough! Noooooo. Not so.

(24,333 posts)But your attempt to defend HRC and diBlasio by using Obama telling a similar joke is just as ridiculous
Go into an Irish bar and tell the same joke about the Irish that an Irishman/woman has been telling and the time it'll take for you to be knocked on your ass will be measured in nanoseconds with my Irish born ancestors leading the way
Tell a Croat joke, a Japanese joke, a Korean joke, etc in that group and you're not one of them, you'll likely get your butt kicked
Jokes that can be considered derogatory, when told within that particular ethnic, cultural or religious group are acceptable because they are members of the group, there is a shared experience and they're not considered slamming that group (ie no malice with a paint brush)
Why you've chosen to continue a no-win topic that should be laid to rest and move on I don't know
Why you don't seem to get the difference probably explains the former
Surya Gayatri

Hillary is more of Obama. Obama didn't do enough and was unfortunately strongarmed by the Republican house. We've got to really shake things up with Bernie.
