Majority of Americans Are Desperate For a Third Party Candidate

General election polls are not the only polls that Democrats or Republicans should be worried about right now. According to those "other" polls, 56% of Americans would consider voting for a third party candidate rather than Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses th

18. This OP meets two criteria:
Wed May 25, 2016, 07:38 PM
May 2016

1) alters the truth to try to make a point, and,
2) is a way to try to diminish our eventual nominee.

Reality is that either Clinton or Trump will be taking the oath of office in January. I care too much about the planet, my country, my family and my future to do anything that increases the chance that Trump will be the one on the stage.

....voted AGAINST Sanders? In fact, add in the 8 or 9 million who have voted for the republican candidates, and you've got a HUGE "majority" of primary voters who don't want Sanders.

Curious how that works, eh?

My estimate is intentionally HIGH to dispel the idea that I was "underestimating" Sanders' support.

There are other estimates out on the internet, but I'm content with mine.

Funny thing, how "estimates" factor into the math when we want them to, eh?

But I didn't say that. Am I allowed to say that? Probably not. I withdraw my comment. omg

Single-member district system, however, makes 3rd party candidates unviable unless people massively protest in the streets for change like in Brasil (and even then given the brazenness we know see in the primaries who knows).

My guy is and will continue to be Bernie. I like Jill Stein but I'm don't think she'd be ready for the whole mechanics of Washinton DC politics. But by spreading the number of parties, the less chance there is of a "too big to fail" party.

Having visited other countries who have coalition governments, I wonder why we are still saddled with an antiquated system where our two parties -- which are morphing into variations on a theme (thanks to SCOTUS on their Citizens United decree) -- drag us down into gutter politics.
The Founding Parents are surely turning in their graves over how their vision of a strong republic has devolved into a bastardization of the Golden Rule: s/he who has the gold rules.
That's why I support the Bernie Sanders revolution. Until we get big money out of our political system, we condemn ourselves to the feedback loop of one shitty party or the other. Each pandering to its own "base" and otherwise selling their souls -- and our collective fate -- to the highest bidder.

I know, everyone I talk to has told me, "I'm desperate for a third political party."

Find me one million people who have actually said that, and I'll be the presidential candidate for that party! [center]
