Cyclist tries to cut across Obama's motorcade

The president was on his way to an appearance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show when this hapless bicyclist apparently thought he could get across the street in front of Obama. I don't know if he saw this coming. Perhaps he was unaware, but the president always has right of way.

And then there a few who are arrogant pricks, that riding a bike makes them just a little more important than everybody else.

Nor are most people apt to remember or even notice them.

Unfortunately, that can badly skew the public's perception of cyclists.

We're definitely in agreement on one thing, bluestateguy!

first cop stops him with a shoulder hit and lowers him to the ground. Threat -if any- neutralized. THEN a motorcycle cop runs in and mashes his face to the pavement in an arm lock, knee to his back.

Anyone who was involved with the Occupy NY demonstrations will see the later cop's behavior... and NOT be surprised.

The guy was on the ground, seemed to be tangled/tied up with his bike AND the fat cop who well on him. He appeared to be neutralized by that point. It is good to take precautions though. Police are trained that the risk of danger is not OVER, until the suspect is cuffed. But it appeared to me that the suspect was not resisting or struggling to get away and that the motorcycle cop could have easily gotten the suspect cuffed with out the additional body slam, neck twist. The suspect was pushed off his back causing him to hit the pavement on his back. At this point there is no way to tell whether he was injured. Broken ribs, broken back, cracked vertebrae perhaps. If the cyclist had suffered an injury, jumping on him, rolling him around could have exacerbated any injuries, even to the degree of paralyzing or killing the cyclist. How many incidents have we read about where poor judgment led to injuries or death of a civilian. Even IF a situation calls for force, caution and restraint should be used to avoid causing injuries.
