It is well past time that the average Working Class American had a voice in our political system.

had established a progressive reputation of her own. Bernie's endorsement merely enhanced that.

I take nothing away from her victory and am glad that she won, however it happened. Congratulations to her! I have long admired her columns.

Other candidates endorsed by Bernie did not fare as well.

I mean don't get me wrong, I like Cuomo enough, but I liked her more. Although, Cuomo is an extremely effective gov.

we are essentially on the same page.

Both of us see ZT as a good all-round candidate, who has been in the running before and has built up her own political creds as a result. That she also received a Bernie endorsement is great. But she likely had earned a lot of votes already on her own.

I would simply like to see that fact acknowledged.

I sure hope it's a sign of things to come. Reading about the rightward trend of the DNC platform committee and its rejection of most of what Bernie-appointed members proposed indicates that the old guard still doesn't get it. But Zephyr's win indicates that the voters do get it.

She came very close to upsetting Cuomo long before Sanders came on the scene.

Leave it to him and his followers to try to take credit for what this woman has achieved on her own.

It's nice that we all like her--She's great.

“I am running for Congress to break down those doors in Washington, D.C.; the doors that are keeping the people of America — the real people, the citizens of America — locked out,” Teachout said in an email to supporters after her win. “I’ve been fighting well-paid lobbyists on behalf of working families my entire life. I will fight until we win — for the people of NY 19. For the American people.”

It turns out that this is a popular agenda.
"Teachout is one of the top progressive recruits in the 2016 field, a law professor who specializes in the study of corruption and corporate power.

Teachout’s campaign has focused on money in politics, denouncing the ease with which big business is able to distort both consumer markets and the political process."

"Zephyr Teachout is running to shake up the Democratic Party, American politics, the US Congress and economic arrangements that favor billionaires over working Americans."

referring to Frank Sinatra as "Dean Martin's favorite singer".

She is awesome all by herself, with no coat-tails attached.

But I guess credit is due to Bernie, as well as Chuck Schumer, Sierra Club, NY Times, National Nurses United and Otsego County mayors for recognizing and endorsing her awesomness.

Bigger question - how did the other candidates who were backed by Sanders do? Thought I read they all lost?

Yadic is a local. While Teachout just bought a house in the district even though living and working in NYC.

Again, Will Yadic who is openly gay by the way is a local of the area, a farmer, who went to Ivy League schools but loved farming so much he came back after college. He ran and has experience in local government, which she doesn't.
They both debated and had a lot they agreed on.

35. My old district when I lived in New York
Thu Jun 30, 2016, 08:54 AM
Jun 2016

Counties in the district:

Columbia - Sparsely populated, evenly matched.
Delaware - Even less populate, very Republican
Greene - Less than Columbia, more than Delaware, VERY Republican
Otsego - Sparsely populated, evenly matched (needs to carry Oneonta and Cooperstown to win)
Schoharie - Barely anyone, very Republican
Sullivan - Medium size (my home county. . .lived a mile from Woodstock), reliably Democratic
Ulster - Home of SUNY New Paltz, Large Population, reliably Democratic

parts of:
Broome - Mostly trees, this part of the county is Republican
Dutchess - Most of the county, high population, reliably Republican
Montgomery - Sparsely populated, Western half of the county, very Republican
Rensselaer - All of the county except the Democratic stronghold of Troy, VERY Republican

Democrats need to come out in force in Ulster, Sullivan and Otsego. Even then, Teachout has a massive uphill battle to win this seat. Dutchess will go Republican 2-1 and the smaller counties will go Republican 3-1. She needs to win the three other counties 2-1 in order to win this district in a squeaker.

I have many friends here.
