A group that grew in strength and influence(I just discovered this recently, through an article on the Cracked.Com website, of all places)in response to President Carter's proposal to revoke the tax-exempt status of evangelical congregations that ran segregated schools(that's what the word "Christian school" usually means in the South, for the record, a school allowed to be segregated due to the exemption of religious groups from the civil rights laws on "Congress may not regulate religion" grounds that was allowed in the Brown V. Board of Education decision).

That's right, it took the thought of their little white "Christian" kids having to sit in the same classroom with black kids to mobilize the Moral Majority and other groups like it).

Remind anyone who argues that Southern conservatism has nothing to do with racism of this history every time you can).

Dad was a military doctor and family was living in New Mexico when he was born. His mother chose an El Paso hospital for him to be born, although the family did live briefly in San Antonio then back to Queens after the war. But Phil spent his formative years in Ohio.

I suspect Bernie knows a more than a few of his lyrics.
