White privilege can be used for good things by good people as a way to expose prejudice/discrimination and change things.

Same with male privilege. I've seen very interesting stories of transgender people discuss how things were before and after their transition.

I've been the white guy in the line doing the same thing in much less trying conditions and it really lowers the temperature when you speak up, if only to say "Hello, can I help?"

The whole fear thing that drives this kind of exchange gets altered by breaking the sequence that appearances and attitudes have kicked off and assumptions maintain.
