I've had issues with spurs much of my adult life. A spur on one of my heels (calcaneous) had to be surgically ground off about twenty years ago because it became too painful to wear most shoes. I also have spurs in the location the OP depicts, which so far simply limit the sorts of shoes I can wear, but in the wrong shoes they are quite painful.

There's that old bromide about walking a mile in someone else's shoes-- it's easy to make light of other peoples' pain otherwise.
