Maher's New Rules are usually the best part of his show, but tonight it was his opening monologue.
Favorite line: "Stamina? She was Bruce Springsteen just getting warmed up after 90 minutes!"
Second favorite line: "Republicans out there, thank you so much for this, thank you so much, you must be so fucking proud..."

(13,087 posts)I don't think the show is always good, and I have been watching
since it aired 14 years ago.
Angela Rye took Steve down a peg or two.
I enjoyed Bill pounding on the desk !!!!!!
I wish every news person would do this when the basket of
deplorables start spreading their lies and misinformation.

But I'm probably being silly.
About your question, if this country becomes an idiocracy, I'm crossing the border for good.

(5,106 posts)"The Daily Show" was the big winner among the "Academic" (college bound) high school kids, although a year or two before, none of them had heard of it. Of course I ragged them about being up so late on school nights, but their homework would have been long ago been done.

The purpose of school isn't obedience training; it's to develop thinking, independent adults. Only children in grownups' bodies want to create lifelong dependency in their own children.
Letting go of our kids is tough, but adults find a way to respect that process. And teachers help that process.
