Favorite line: "Stamina? She was Bruce Springsteen just getting warmed up after 90 minutes!"

5. No surprise with Maher: maybe the only time even conservative news outlets agree with him.

Will this nation exhibit progressive (to keep up with the rest of the world) common sense, or truly become an "Idiocracy?"

6. I have to say that I think the Left, through Maher and other shows, is teaching conservatives

that it's okay to think, read -- maybe believe verifiable facts and science over religious 'truth' -- not be so fearful of change, and even develop a sense of ethics through humor.

But I'm probably being silly.

8. You remind me that, a decade back, I was serveying favorite TV shows with high school students...

"The Daily Show" was the big winner among the "Academic" (college bound) high school kids, although a year or two before, none of them had heard of it. Of course I ragged them about being up so late on school nights, but their homework would have been long ago been done.

10. I remember that, too! My son watched it religiously, too, and after a while I joined him.

As a wounded boomer I had to learn to lighten up about what was turning into political theater, so yeah, that was a great show for me, too.

I need to rewind a bit to interject...teaching critical thinking can become a real problem with so many parents who take it as a threat to their personal beliefs.

19. As a high school teacher for 34 years, I can attest to that. My job was to help them see

their child as a separate person developing his/her own personal beliefs without them feeling they were being rejected as parents.

The purpose of school isn't obedience training; it's to develop thinking, independent adults. Only children in grownups' bodies want to create lifelong dependency in their own children.

Letting go of our kids is tough, but adults find a way to respect that process. And teachers help that process.
