Related: About this forumDon't let them tell you our movement is "Just like the Tea Party"
The Glenn Beck/costume and racist sign shitshow of 2009/10 had deep roots in the Koch organization over decades.
Their memos called the effort "quarterback behind the scenes".

(18,124 posts)with these clowns, always and the next two years for sure....their reign WILL end in flames, no survivors. This is really a disgusting, maddening time in ameriKKKan history. A 21st century update of post Civil War generations.

(3,847 posts)I have heard all week how similar the two movements are. Besides the obvious we don't have millionaires paying for all the props and venues for their "rallies." I don't think there was one arrest during the Tea Baggers Nuremberg rallies, while our resistance has had a number of arrests, mainly for no reason other than they happened to be there.
The media making up the stories (again) and interjecting their ignorance so they can talk about how victimized they have been by BLOTUS. Watching these hacks trying to make this 'both sides do it' meme so they don't have to use an extra brain cell shows me they haven't changed on damn bit.
These movements couldn't be more like Night and Day. Their refusal to be truly honest is disgusting and more of the same.

(6,017 posts)Together they comprise just under half of all Americans. Although I'm not sure co-opted is the right word since their leaders were complicit in the deal. Their followers on the other hand were simply following spiritual orders. People who need spiritual guidance are *vulnerable*. To envelop the two largest Christian sects into a political cause is abuse of those people; they flat out tell their congregations that they will burn in hell if they vote Democratic.
Not to mention that unlike all other non-profits, churches don't have to provide the IRS with financial transparency; they are the perfect vehicle to move massive amounts of money without a paper trail to fund political efforts.
