(58,724 posts)Anyway, I really don't think Republicans are "rape fans" - seems like there is a more artful way to make the point with respect to abortion rights.
HopeHoops
(47,675 posts)Then again, Republicans are clueless on pretty much everything having to do with sex and reproductive health. I knew a guy a long time ago who insisted that breast cancer was caused by sluts having their tits squeezed too much and colon cancer was caused by gay sex. He had some other rather absurd ideas about things too. Limbaugh listener. On the plus side, he's probably still a virgin.

Yeah, the gopricks sound like Rape Defenders to be..and that could very well be construed as "fans".

(3,180 posts)This is the kind of thing that gets us in trouble. Ryan did not say that rape is just another method of contraception. He said the following. I also don't like the "Rape fans" sign. I think it's a hit below the belt, and not true of the vast majority of Republicans. I say we are better than this ... much better.
And the president, in this case the future President Mitt Romney, has exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother, which is a vast improvement of where we are right now.

(63,645 posts)Obviously, they aren't actually "Rape fans" -- everyone knows that. It's a pithy way of referencing the aforementioned "people who think rape doesn't cause conception and oppose abortion in cases of rape". Everyone here knows the reference we were making, and gets the joke.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)This site is one of many online communities that is sometimes seen as representative of the voices of Democrats and progressives and cited accordingly.
Yes, everyone here knows the reference and gets the joke, but the opportunity for: "Democratic Underground calls Republicans 'rape fans'" as a headline on a neutral or unfriendly site seems counterproductive.
Especially with the joke coming from one of the people who run the site, which thus, can be seen to be broadly representative of the site itself (as opposed to a post from a random member).
Just my opinion (respectfully) for what it's worth.

(5,191 posts)... regardless of what we say. If we say we love Romney's Massachusetts healthcare plan, we're big government socialists. If we say we like the fact that Reagan raised taxes on the rich, we're commie pinkos. Even if we were to say nothing at all, they would make something up to attribute to us that pissed them off. Moral of the story, don't lose any sleep over what Repukes think or say about DU; they're going to say it no matter what.

(58,724 posts)Liberals rejoice at the news that Hurricane Isaac could hit Tampa during the RNC
So when a hurricane hits a heavily populated area, it is no laughing matter. But some liberals are enjoying the news anyway.
On the left-wing website Democratic Underground, user AnnieBW writes: "For once, I'll be cheering for a hurricane to hit the West Coast of Florida ... Usually, my husband and I worry when a hurricane gets close to the West Coast. Not this time. We're going to be laughing our asses off!"

Who needs this kind of thing popping up on Google news feeds?
primavera
(5,191 posts)But still, this guy makes no effort whatsoever to conceal his contempt for all things liberal. I suppose it's too bad that someone gave him ammo, but he was obviously scouring the internet looking for something, anything, to fuel his hatred. It's not very realistic to expect that he wouldn't have been able to find even one single, solitary comment on the entire web that would have suited his purposes and, again, even had he not, I have no doubt that he would have simply made something up.

Got my popcorn, my bumper sticker and...
I've read up on the issues.
1) Old Romney says he's a moderate Republican, Progressive and committed to Universal Healthcare.
2) New Romney says he's severely Conservative and will overturn Obamacare; modeled on Romneycare.
Should be a good one.

(51 posts)Matters so much.I considered myself an independent until romney picked paul ryan as vp, I was shocked.how can you embrace such radical ideas, I mean haven't the rich raped us enough for the last 30 years,And yet they want more.I mean that's when I said I can no longer support a party that hates the poor, minorities, women, the middle class, gays, muslims, the elderly, and keeps on giving to the rich.its like they're being controlled by remote by the kkk and the koch brothers at the same time.I hear some repugs calling for civil war if obama is reelected, well I say bring it on.
