1. I think it's a sad moment for former Republicans like Steve Schmidt. But, we will celebrate if

2. Unfortunate that Schmidt says it's the fault of politics in America. Just a diatribe against trump

This is another example of the both-siderism: "they do it, so we should too."

Maybe if Schmidt cast some increased blame on his party and the rot that started around Reagan then I'd think he finally "got it."

I haven't finished watching this so I'm hoping he stops just blaming trump - who is nothing other than a puppet for vested interests, for the failure of the repuglicons.

8. I have finished the video. It is only about trump. I think he's angling for a new repuglicon party.

Never did I hear any word about the support by repuglicons for trump during the impeachment proceedings and now in the House.

This is a political speech. Not a critique of the political system.

I lost a lot of good will towards Schmidt by watching this.

10. I love Steve.

He is truly a genius. His knowledge of history, politics, the American value system is astounding.
His gravitas is very compelling.

I believe in redemption, and Steve has a lot of bad karma to atone for.

Yes of course he is trying to build a new party, new career, new America.
And yes I was disgusted by his defense of Trump needing constitutional protections, etc.
But he is right about it.

I cut Steve some slack, he has gone through hell and faces a mountain of shit every day
because he has worked tirelessly to bring down Trump.

11. Thank you. I don't disagree about the genius and his own position.

Of course we (the USofA) want to give every person the same rights - protection under law, etc.

Steve's party as it is now configured is doing everything possible to disrupt our rule of law.

It's hard to separate the massive changes that money has caused on the makeup of the SCOTUS in favor of the RW/libertarian goals and the goals of the current Republican party. They seem in lock-step - almost marching to the same drummer and the same pay-master.

Thanks for this discussion!

I assume Steve knows, or at least he should know, that his very own party is taking the country to fascist rule.
All from dark money and hidden agendas on the part of our enemies.
If Steve has not realized this then he is only a one trick pony.

Yes I hear you. Duh Steve Schmidt. Democrats are the ones who believe in the rule of law.
You are getting us confused with the GOP which does not.

Thank you for the discussion!

4. The biggest tragedy is that the many Americans support Trump.

What does that say about us as a country?

6. That many of those supporters don't get information from multiple independent sources.

I deliver meals in a rural area and have developed friendships over the years with many of the clients.

At least 90% have fux on their T.V.s when I walk in.

Some, a few, of them I ask how they get their information. These are intelligent and caring people, but they don't know anything about any of the negatives of the RW media, trump, etc.

9. Thanks, I_D. I don't think its lack of critical thinking skills. It's just "Don't Change That Dial!"

14. It's a little confusing as to whom some of this is supposed to be directed . . .

Schmidt goes on and on about how "Trump's fiercest critics" need to be "better than the worst Trumpists," and goes on and on about Trump's rights under the Constitution. My question for Scmidt is, who, among Trump's fiercest critics, has suggested otherwise? Who has said that Trump does not or should not be accorded every right accorded to any accused person? Certainly no one that I am aware of!

I'd really like Schmidt (and others of the never-Trumper crowd) to put together a platform for a new party. We could call them the Not-Your-Grandpa's-Party (NYGP)?
