At Newtown Memorial, Obama Pledges Action

"We can't tolerate this any more. These tragedies must end, and to end them we must change," the president said at a memorial service for the victims of Friday's mass shooting in Connecticut. I am among the surprised that he even broached the topic of change being needed at the service though I firmly believe he is committed to effecting some change in policy following this tragedy,

Sorry I only meant that because many of us here are talking specifics that must have clouded my judgement, so I will look forward to a policy speech about the subject.

Obviously I get it now that he shouldn't be specific at a memorial service, my mind was clouded initially due to all the forum talk about specifics on how to stop this violence..... but in the end, it is he who will have to initiate and lead this change, when I see people on this forum that support gun rights some as strongly as if they were part of the NRA it dims my hope that anything will be done, but if nothing gets done now than I think I can safely say nothing will ever get done and I will consider it a direct failure of President Obama to lead on the issue. If we fail from the same old talking points like "guns don't kill people", "Guns are not easy to access", and of course the loathesome "If only more people had guns, they could shoot back" crap that the rightwing and NRA lobbyists are going to throw at us than I say it is dis-service to those that gave their lives to teach us these lessons.... How many more must die?

I am too. The opposition to doing SOMETHING about guns is an outrage.

Despite the rhetoric it might surprise America to find out that not EVERYONE in America has a gun. There are whole communities where there are no guns at all. It's just that those who DO have guns sometimes have TONS of them which skews the stats.

As a matter of fact, I'll BET that after this happened the usual faces showed up at their local gun store to make yet another purchase. Even buying duplicates of guns they already have in a panic that they wont be able to get them. Then there are those buying them pre-ban to make a fortune re-selling them post-ban.
