It's still a big part of the misogynistic, redneck male mentality. Especially here in the south. What the Congressman should be saying is "I'm embarrassed I raised my son to be a cowardly woman abuser, and I wish to apologize to her and offer her any assistance she possibly needs to recover and to get totally away from my sick offspring!" Kudos for shining a light on it!
