Gone are the days when you could pop a video in the player and be good to go? On Saturday I bought

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo on Blu-Ray for $11.00. Went home, made a drink, put the DVD in the player.

Message: "Can not play this disc". WTF! The player is a Sony, the disc is a Sony. Tried again. "disc not recognized". Fuck me! Tried again. "non compatible disc". SONOFABITCH!

Went online. "some discs will not play without firmware upgrade". Shit!

Today: Connected player to Internet, downloaded new firmware, installed new firmware, tried video, IT WORKS!

I miss my VHS!

If you get the little "NO" icon with fast forward, try skip track. That usually works. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #12

I still have vcr.

It is a double unit, with a dvd playe/recorder and vcr.

I play a video tape to remember the good old days.

VCR's had their problems, like eating tapes.

Nothing like a favorite tape biting dust.

There are a lot of commericals on the new dvd's.

I hate those ads. And on a lot of them you can't fast forward.

I am copying all my tapes to dvd's, then tossing the tapes.

Dvd's do take up less space.

The tapes that filled up a big box now fit into a big 3 ring school binder.

None of the disks in the first season set would play - none. The 2nd and 3rd seasons were just fine. On a whim, I turned one of the 1st season disks over and put it in - it worked fine, as did all of the others. They'd printed the title information on the wrong side of the inner rings, but just for season 1.

BTW, "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is one damn good movie.

and I don't know the password to turn it off. Sometimes it won't let me play Rated R movies.
Now I just watch everything on my laptop.
