True Blood Recap - this season is really rocking!!! *** spoilers ***

I'm on vacation today so I rewatched last night's episode of 'True Blood' this morning and I noticed the show went almost 25 minutes until it showed a non-vampire related storyline. It goes to show that the writers know what makes TB fans tick and that's anything to do with Vampires. So here is my thoughts about last night's episode.

First, I think probably one of the most tender scenes ever with 'True Blood' was between Eric and Pam. Pam was one of the 4 people who knew where Russell Edgington was buried and at the time the one logical thought that it was her who unburied Edgington from his cement grave. Eric tried everything to get Pam to confess but in an angry, teary moment Pam said that she would 'die a 1000 deaths' before betraying her maker and that if Eric thought so little of her that he should release her. Knowing how Eric & Pam came to be it was an amazing moment between one of TB's most endearing 'couples'. Sure some say that TV's Pam is a far cry from what Pam was in the book but remember that the book really isn't the guideline anymore for the TV show. I like how the writers built up to today's confrontation between Pam and Eric. In the end Eric realized it wasn't Pam that dug him up (or perhaps she just lied really well) but knowing that his time could soon be coming to an end he did the only thing he could do to protect Pam and that was to release her.

Makers have a strong control over their progeny so by releasing someone they can no longer do the 'As your maker I command you'. And this week we learned just how powerful that command is. The show started off with Tara trying to commit suicide via tanning machine. Pam, having a change of heart about abandoning Tara (probably thanks to the great flashbacks when we learned how Pam came into being Eric's progeny) she rushed to Tara and put an end to Tara's suicidal ways. Just by commanding her, Tara had no choice to turn off the tanning machine. I loved how Pam introduced Tara to Eric ("congratulations you're a grandfather&quot . Tara may hate what she is but I think over time she'll adjust with Pam as her mentor. The TB writers did a great job building up the tension between Tara and Pam last year that it made sense to bring these 2 together as Maker & Progeny. Even Eric embraced her new role as maker, when releasing her he told Pam that she's a maker now and she had to do what needs to be done to carry on the bloodline.

BUT..... even though Pam may have been spared the wrath of Eric did you notice her at the end when she commanded Tara to feed. (BTW best quote of the week - 'Already 3 days old and she has an eating disorder'). But while Tara fed, did Pam speak in a way that made her sound a bit well, Sanguista? Could Pam have been deceptive to Eric? We shall see in the upcoming weeks.

And btw come on True Blood give us Russell. We can't wait to see him!

Most improved storyline - Terry and Patrick
Yes I do remember the name of Terry's war buddy - it was Patrick. Not sure how the writers did it but this week I actually found the Terry/Patrick storyline interesting and can't wait to see what happens with it now that they found their crazy war buddy up in South Dakota. Let's face it, no storyline in TB can exist without some supernatural involvement so I suspect we'll have that connection showing up soon. After rewatching the storyline I realized why it's most improved - simple, there was no Arlene. Arlene has got to be the most whiny annoying character in TB history and this week she was relegated to Merlotte's filler. Without Arlene's whining I actually started to get into the Terry/Patrick storyline. BTW anyone notice the 'Fuck Bush' comment made while the guys were partying in Iraq?

Finally - a Sookie/Alcide hookup. Sookie, after realizing that she was pretty much screwed now that Alcide knew she killed Debbie tried to turn herself into the police (well to her brother Jason but he always does protect her). It was sentimentally classic early TB when they showed Sookie at work engulfed with all the thoughts of people at Merlotte's who may not know she killed Debbie Pelt but did know she had her best friend turned into a Vampire. Sookie is struggling and doesn't help that her only 'friend' left is Lafayette who sometimes is on team Sookie and sometimes a Brujo ready to do some evil fucked up shit. I'm not sure how I feel about this Lafayette as a Brujo and we've yet to explain why Jesus' body was missing BUT I do hope that in the next 8 episodes they clean up this storyline AND perhaps see Jesus back for a visit or 2 (Lafayette is a Medium so he can see the dead too). But someone tell me how a person can be roll out of a speeding car and not suffer any injuries. And how convenient that this was one of the few times ever we saw Sookie wear a heavy jacket. This is Louisanna not Montana.

BUT, realizing her world is shit and she has a body count, Sookie did the only thing she knew best - she got drunk as a skunk on some of the nastiest alcohol one could have in the house. Amerreto? Gin? Bailey's? Must be a chick's house. I had a good laugh watching a drunk Sookie sing the Pina Colada song and who comes knocking on the door but Alcide. Turns out he is still protecting Sookie and this time he lied to Debbie Pelt's parents and said it was Marcus Bozeman that killed Debbie. I guess Alcide figured that a dead man tells no tales. Problem is, there are people who did witness Marcus being murdered by Alcide and that Debbie was very much alive when that happened. Sure Vamp Jessica did her best to help get Sheriff Andy off the case (nice glamour job) but I have to think that the Pelts are going to find someone who was at the scene when Marcus was murdered. I know Sam was there and he won't say anything but wasn't some of Marcus' buddies there too. I'm going to rewatch episode 11 and see who was in the room at the time of Marcus' murder. Because this might not be the last of Debbie Pelt's parents.

But finally we had Sookie and Alcide hookup but what a disappointment. True Blood has some of the best sex scenes but the best we could see of Sookie and Alcide was when Bill and Eric both decided to check in on Sookie and watched from outside her house as she was making out with Alcide. Come on, don't make me pay $12 to see Joe Manganiello shirtless (He's in 'Magic Mike' a movie released just this week).

Finally, not sure what I'm thinking of the reemergence of the Faeries. I thought that was such a stupid way they ended up there (Turns out the local judge is a regular at the Faery Moulin Rouge) but I thought there was some great new storylines opening up especially when Jason, who was invited to the party, found his cousin Hadley there (She went there so she could protect her son Hunter who has many of the same faery features that Sookie has). Hadley let the cat out the bag that Jason & Sookie's parents didn't die by the flood but it was vampires that murdered them. I guess Jason got a bit testy and it ended up Eric and Andy got tossed from the club. I think there is alot of potential with the faeries back in the picture and could be a big help with capturing Russell Edgington but can we just ditch that judge. And it was nice to see Andy hooking up with his Faery girlfriend although now what's going to happen with his witch girlfriend Holly? Who could have thought Andy could be a hot leading man.

Missing in action - Please give us more Martha Bozeman and Steve Newlin. Both were missing this week.

Looks like something from the books made this season. That was Sam's shifter friends both being murdered. I haven't finished book#5 but I do know that a major storyline was that some of the shifters getting murdered. So it looks like that's a new storyline.

Finally, the best of last Sunday's episode is the Authority. I can't get enough of them or Christopher Meloni, who really makes the ultimate Vampire badass. But is anyone else like me thinking that it wasn't just that 9 year old kid that was betraying the Authority. My guess is Salome is probably the biggest defector of the group but she's had 2000 years of being the deceptive seductive femme fatale that my guess is she's going to have some huge scenes in the upcoming weeks. She knows how to tweaks everyones buttons - getting Nora to confess ( It was interesting how Roman was ready to stake Bill & Eric just to get Nora to confess ) but you have to think that Nora sacrificed that 9 year old kid in order to protect someone even bigger - and it's the same woman that is sharing a bed with the Guardian himself which is Salome. Please- more Authority next week!!!!

Ok enough of my rambling on - let's hear your thoughts!

It was just Sam, Marcus, Debbie and Alcide in the room. I thought one of Marcus' goons was there too. So the only person that could spoil Alcide's lie is Sam and I doubt that will happen.

But this is True Blood and nothing is ever what it seems. I'm guessing it was almost a day between when Marcus was killed and Debbie attacked Sookie and ended up killed herself. Obviously Debbie got V somewhere - was it someone she knew that supplied it?

AND finally what about all that rigorous honesty that Alcide and Debbie were doing there last season. What if Alcide told Debbie where Russell was buried. She found a way to dig him out and Russell gave her the V?

Just saying that I doubt Debbie holed up in her room with no one seeing her after Marcus was killed. I suspect we'll see Debbie's parents again sometime soon.!

I'm afraid I'm developing a bit of a "thing" for Alcide, so I was sorry they were so discreet too...I think. I have a confession to make here. While Sookie is the perfect Sookie and everything she should be, she gets on my last nerve sometimes. Clearly the fey don't have the effect on me that they have on vampires. And why that mind reading ability switches on and off is beyond me.

I love the Eric and Pam line too, thogh Lord knows whee it's leading. I was really glad to see Tara sounding sassy and irritable again, and would love to see her turn into a powerful, fierce player oin this little drama.

That car bail was ridiculous.

I miss Steve Newlin, am delighted with Jessica's development, and damn I'm glad that 9 year old got staked. Ew. It did cause me to ask the house (the family that watches TB together, stays together) whether staked vampire blood was V or just goo. Opinions varied.

For me the jury's still out on Terry's story line. It seems like an add-on rather than blending in with anything else going on in Bon Temps.

SOOOOOO, how bout a little "What are going to do with Anna Paquin's pregnancy?" speculation...

And they don't start filming until the beginning of the year. Anna Paquin has a rock hard body to start with (she has to with all the nudity she's done in TB) so I'm guessing it won't take long for her to get back into Sookie shape. But since it really is an ensemble cast they could start filming all the non-Sookie scenes first and start her filming around Feb/Mar and be like nothing ever happened. And since she and her husband Stephen Moyer (Bill) are both in the cast of TB they'll just bring the twins with them to the set.

I swear I look forward to your comments almost as much as I do the show. I know I have said that before, but it bears repeating.

I wasn't too thrilled with the flashback to Viet Nam.. but that's just me..and I SO agree with you about Arlene. Also, I am starting to dislike what they are doing with Lafayette.. only because they throw him in there with this Brujo thing going on and then poof he is gone and then poof we get to see his confusion and that's it and I think the gravity of his situation needs a little more screen time and some Jesse.. Also, I don't get why he is so pissed off that Sookie told Alcide, she didn't mention that Lafayette was there and Lafayette didn't do anything to be worried about.

Not sure what is going on with Sookie.. but I am feeling a sort of loss like maybe they don't know what to do with her at the moment. More Alcide is definitely called for. I liked the Faerie thing and agree about the judge.. buh bye. Also, I am wondering now what the story is with Sookie and Jason's parents.. why would vampires kill them and does that have anything to do with their connection to the Vamps now?

Sam's shifter friends being shot was a surprise, but I see what you mean about it following a SL in the book.. although in the book the shooter was a person who worked at Sam's bar and Sam himself got shot... so we will see how far they are gonna go with this. But I think I will like anything that gives us more Sam and more Sam and Sookie even if it is just a working relationship, I liked them together.

It is still all about the Authority for me.. and Pam and Tara are right up there.. The Vamp SL is getting very interesting.. I like that Bill and Eric are working together, but the previews seem to hint that their bromance will not last long. I think I picked up some signals of anxiety (guilt?) in Salome's body language when the Guardian was strolling around with that stake.. so I won't be surprised to find that she is the weakest link. Plus I have seen a flash in the previews that would support that theory.

I agree with your first inclination that the very Rev Steve Newlin may have been turned by Russell shortly before he was encased in cement.. I think the only way he could have escaped was by calling to his other new childe.

The previews for next week looked explosive..

Thanks for spear heading this forum so we can discuss this brilliant show

6. Lafayette said right away for Sookie to go to the police...

because Sookie is white and would be able to claim self-defense whereas as a black man he would probably get screwed. Alan Ball writes alot of RL injustice into True Blood and I think that's what he's doing with Lafayette wanting Sookie to keep her mouth shut. Problem is this - it isn't quite working.

As for the Brujo Lafayette I'm gonna give 2 more episodes to do something with it else I'll be bitching about it. And trust me, in 5 years I have never once bitched about Lafayette (other than his bad haircut from last year).

I'm guessing that anyone who is a descendant of faeries are a risk to vampires. Although Jason doesn't show as many faery characteristics (the only one really is just that he is very attractive to people) he still has the chance to have a child with more faery qualities or even develop some characteristics. As far as we know neither of the Stackhouse parents showed major Faery qualities but they may have had some faery blood in them which would have made them much more tasty to vampires. If you noticed - Jessica has not drank from Jason so he may even have tastier blood too.

Steve Newlin couldn't have been turned by Russell. Russell was in cement for over a year and even Newlin said he was turned only 4 months ago. I'm guessing it was someone in the authority who saw Newlin as a way to appeal to the human population.

Then my money is on Salome..or maybe even the Guardian himself.. that would be a real twist

Yeah I forgot that Lafayette told Sookie to go to the police.. but I can't figure out his rage now.. but yeah Lafayette has long been one of my favorite characters - even with an occasional bad 'do'

I remember that Sookie's grandfather had Faerie blood.. but nothing has been said about her parents in the show has it?

Do you know how many episodes are left in this season?

I think with faeries even if you don't show the signs of faery you still carry the blood. We shall see!

I've narrowed it down to 3 scenarios as to who left Russell out.

1.). Debbie pelt - perhaps alcide told her or she followed him to the site.

2.). Pam - not ruling her out yet. She has always been a conniver even 100 years ago to get Eric to turn her.

3.). Someone on the authority who happens to be Russell's progeny. My guess is Salome since she has a 2000 years of conniving.

I feel that Nora and Salome are in cahoots. They were talking to each other in code, so to speak. Nora said she was ready to die, as in, "I'm ready to make the ultimate sacrifice." Salome responded, talking about their long-term relationship.

I thought it was creative the way they turned in the 9 year old kid, with improper vampire porn on the internet! Which is how they normally catch child pornographers. I don't think the kid is a full fledged Sanquenista, or he would have started ratting out a lot of other people to save his own life. He's also not a hardcore Mainstreamer.

That Tara-Pam thing is a lot of fun to watch. "Let bi's be bi's." Pam is going to be very interesting to watch now that she's come into her own.

Thanks again, LynneSin!
