The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just saw the FUNNIEST, best movie and it was based on RL too...
The movie is "Hysteria" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1435513/
It's based in the 1880s and it's an actual real story although embellished just a bit for entertainment purposes.
It's the true story of how the vibrator was invented.
See way back when women who were acting all weird like, insomnia, tension, mood swings, etc etc were diagnosed with something called Female Hysteria. Thing is this really the women were just horny and probably not getting any something-something from their husbands.
So back then there were medical doctors that 'treated' these women by 'massaging the muscles' down there. I kid you not you can wiki this if you don't believe it. So doctors, pretty much getting carpel tunnels from spending all day giving handjobs to frustrating women, one of them found a way to massage the muscles electronically. It really is how the vibrator came to be.
It was a great storyline I'm sure modified just enough to make a great script and I spent 2 hours laughing my ass off with the rest of the audience.
This is a movie worth seeing!

(16,987 posts)I recall reading New York Times reviews of the stage version, and the film adaptation sounded like such a charmer that I had to go see it while it was still in theaters here (Well, ONE theater...).
It's well worth seeing -- an irreverent romantic comedy with a feminist, erm, twist.
