Those of you who remember the 70's know what I am talking about.

(5,849 posts)and my bedroom had Burnt Orange walls and Avocado trim.
Our kitchen had turquoise appliances.

(47,675 posts)Every damn appliance, utensil, and piece of furniture was in one of those three - or black. I've still got a leather lounging sort of chair that is black leather. But SHIT - everything else was in those colors.

(21,020 posts)to the burnt orange.
My mom had a rather...interesting...kitchen back in the 70s (and beyond).
That crappy sort of geometric flower pattern vinyl on the floor. Harvest gold stove. Avocado fridge. And another, smaller PINK fridge near the dining area (flower patterned chairs, green and white round table).
The dining area and living room were separated by one of those cheapo plastic (filagree) "walls" suspended between two brass poles that went from floor to ceiling.
Oddly enough, it all looked pretty normal to me at the time.

(22,239 posts)And the tile in kitchen could only be described and a pizza vomit splatter pattern.

(21,020 posts)Back when Mr Pipi and I were thinking of selling here and buying another home, we looked at one that was straight out of the 70s.
Red shag carpeting up the stairs to the master bedroom, which was one very large room with doors in between. All red shag carpeting that looked like it hadn't been changed (or cleaned) since it was laid down.
I have no doubt that the drapes were probably orange also.
And the pizza vomit floors...that's really a good way to describe them to somebody who's never seen them.

(115,731 posts)for a number of years, but they have finally been replaced as part of a remodeling project. There is still some burnt-orange shag carpeting upstairs, and that's going to go very soon.
The '70s was a dark age of interior decorating and fashion.

(22,239 posts)Lavender.
Really.
I'm fairly certain that the Bible says lavender as a toilet color is an abomination and makes baby Jesus and gays cry.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,731 posts)I've seen turquoise and pink ones, but not lavender. That is kind of an abomination, now that you mention it.

I liked burnt orange.

(22,239 posts)I don't think I could handle that color scheme coming back into fashion.

(18,705 posts)It will be the new colors for them.
Granite counter tops and stainless steel sinks can only last so long.
What is old is new again.
The designers will re package the colors, calling them something else.
geardaddy
(24,931 posts)but yeah, we had tons of Avocado pots and pans.

(22,308 posts)But the carpet in the living room was Harvest Gold and I think the kitchen appliances were Burnt Orange, or close to it.
I can't pick just one.

(21,020 posts)what color my bedroom was in the late 60s - early 70s.
Every inch of wall space plus the ceiling was covered in posters and artwork.
I had a small bedside stand that had a magazine collage under glass, and even my window shades weren't spared...I spray painted them (they were vinyl) blue and silver.
Fun...and slightly weird...times.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)of my room. I was moved into the smaller one my sister had and she got the larger room (I was/am youngest).
I went with green. I think it was a bit lighter than avocado and had a dark green carpet.
pipi_k
(21,020 posts)other green I remember from those times was Lime. It wasn't Lime green, was it?
Seems like every decade had its own shade of green.
Remember the horrible "Institution green" they used to put on the walls in the school cafeteria and such? Horrible color.
I can't see it today without feeling slightly sick.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)More of a flat green, a little lighter than avocado.
Yes I do remember that "Institution green". It was in the basement of my grade school.
NV Whino
(20,886 posts)Every wall of every building at Hughes Aircraft was that god awful, puke green. I think that's where all the other institution green came from.
As for burnt orange, that was my mother's favorite color. She painted the bathroom orange once. Not burnt orange, but true orange. Sort of got you rolling in the morning.

(22,239 posts)They should jazz it up with some macrame.

Why did people bother taking drugs back then? Just decorate your apartment and get a 24/7 acid trip.

OH NO!!!
A meat grinder lamp!

(32,980 posts)burnt orange tupperwear, avocado stove& fridge in apartment in decatur illinois, avocado bedroom walls in bedroom. I still like those colors. The kitchen is the soft green of ms wonderful eyes, orange throw pillow on beige sofa, gold and green strips o n living room chair( ...the cats chose that as a backup scratching post....wonder why?) That chair is on the list for reupolsting and a move into the grey& purple bedroom ( are those 2000 colors)

(21,484 posts)We moved around a lot (staying in the same city). Sometimes the appliances were gold, sometimes avocado. Never had burnt orange appliances. But we did have burnt orange shag carpet in some places.

(417 posts)towels, cookie jar, telephone, plates...it was cute...then, for some reason unbegknowst to me, I redecorated my kitchen in that horrid geese with the blue bows on their necks ACK LOL
CrawlingChaos
(1,893 posts)But you're right - there was a lot of forest green too. Like the inside of a Bombay Co. store.
At the biggest mall around these parts (Valley Fair mall in San Jose), everything that could be painted was painted dusty rose throughout the duration of the '80s. It was a long pink decade.
I think people were looking for colors that were as different as could be from the unholy trio mentioned in the OP.
