My Lucy Pretty Kitteh slipped out the door some time Monday morning. She wasn't missed until the afternoon, whereupon a thorough search of closets and other kitteh hidey holes was conducted with no sign of her forthcoming. We concluded she was out in the wild, so I spent a sleepless night worrying about my kitten being alone in the world for the very first time. She always sleeps with me, and she wasn't in my bed. It's all I thought about all night long.
My sister drove to the shelter yesterday, but Kitteh wasn't there. I spent the day worrying and calling to her (both inside the house and out). Finally, in the early evening, I went out once more and called to her nonstop for ten minutes. I was getting ready to give up when I turned around to see a very frightened and relieved Kitteh at my feet. My Lucy Pretty Kitteh had heard my voice and come home.
After a kitteh reunion supper and tummy rubs she spent the evening following me from room to room, and when I went to bed she laid on top of me and slept there with my hand on her all night long. Today went much the same- she stayed close to me, and spent a lot of time either in my lap or at my feet.
I think she learned a real life lesson out there, alone in the dark of the outdoors night. I know I surely did...

(3,709 posts)What a beauty and I imagine she is as happy to be home as you are to have her back.
Thank goodness she found her way to your voice.
Big kitty hugs!!!

I'm glad your baby is back and you can relax and get a good night's sleep!

(389 posts)Honestly, I sometimes think having cats is as stressful as having kids! And I've had both.

He was also a black/silver tabby.

(3,818 posts)rarely go far when they get outside, which is fortunate. Unfortunately, they are so scared sometimes that they go into a survival mode and often won't answer when you call them even if you are standing right next to them while they are hiding under a bush. Alot of research has been done on the behavior of indoor only cats when they go missing as well as outdoor access cats.
If you feed your cat wet catfood, you might train her to the sound of the tab on the cat food clicking on the lid. That way if she ever gets out again she will associate that sound with food and it might get through to her if calling for her doesn't work. Well, glad Lucy is home safe and sound!

(47,675 posts)One in particular was an indoor/outdoor cat and I took him in because he invited himself into my apartment (we weren't allowed to have animals). I figured someone had thrown him out. I let him come and go, but he kept showing up and clearly needed a home. Every time he vanished for days I was sure he was dead, but he'd be sitting on the porch one day as if nothing happened.
I'm glad she made it back home. If she wasn't used to being outside regularly that seriously must have been traumatic for her. I'd recommend a can of albacore tuna - doctor's orders. Oh, and Peter looks very much like her. The picture's a little fuzzy, but this is when Peter and Tink were about six weeks old. They're still kittens, but Peter's about twice Tink's size now.

(33,688 posts)I'd go nuts if my cat were ever to get out. Fortunately he has never tried to get out. He likes being an indoor kitty at this stage of his life. He does like looking out windows, though.
