Name some non political films that republicans tend to hate and democrats love, or you just love.

Sometimes you can tell a lot about a person from their tastes in the arts. I realize this is an exercise in stereotyping to some extent, people don't fit into nice little boxes and we shouldn't judge "a book by its cover" but for the sake of this thread just humour me. As the title says, name a film that you have seen that tends to polarize audiences along political lines. Overtly political films don't count for the sake of this thread, so anything by Michael Moore is out. If you aren't american, like me, then just think of this as conservatives vs liberals.

There are number of choices I can think of. Anything that smells of "high art" or can be mistakenly interpreted as overly pretentious when in fact it's not might be a candidate. Of course some of these films really are just pretentious. One such film I saw recently which I really like is Wess Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom, though I can see people hatting it legitimately. Another such film I really like is PT Anderson's Magnolia. Come to think of it anything that is morally ambiguous would be a good candidate. A few more examples off the top of my head might be Dead Man Walking and American History X.

Again this is just for fun, no one is saying you can't love or hate ANY of the films listed here.

Considering how poorly it portrays "job creators" I would imagine most of the RW would hate it.

I have also heard they hated the recent Muppet movie and I did actually like it.

I would be curious to see the RW reaction to one film that I truly love, William Wyler's The Best Years of our Lives. It is a-non political film but it says one hell of a lot about America.

I mean, I don't have strong feelings about it either way, but I suspect republicans may not like this one.

Totally non-political movie that conservatives just cannot watch. Something about the message seems to upset them at a fundamental level.

My very conservative father was/is one of those types that seeks out movies based on advice/ratings from conservative websites. I have always liked 'The Lives of Others'. The film about an East German couple being spied on by the secret police. I liked it so much I bought the DVD.

Anyway he told me about a great movie, and if I had seen, 'The Lives of Others'. I said yes, it's one of my favorites. Funny thing is he thought and believed it was a great movie and passes his "conservative enough for me" due solely to the fact that the communists were the bad guys. I told him I didn't see any ringing endorsement for conservatism in this movie at all and that in the larger sense the "bad guys" in the movie were closer to authoritarian conservatives than anything else, other than the flag they work under. Said the patriot act could be this way. He got irritated with me, as much for thinking that I was just trying to be a contrary smartass as bursting his bubble because he didn't want to think too deeply on it. In fact I'm surprised that he watched it in the first place since it's in German w/subtitles.
