I have the same complaint as always - the show's too long. Beautiful cinemetography but too many closeups imo -- 30 foot tall faces singing is tiresome.

Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, and Samantha whatever (Eponine) were quiet good.

But, omg was it crowded (big major cinema, 11:45 matinee, and after a snow storm to boot)...

I could not have gotten up to pee if I'd been beyond desperate.

Good performances, Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman were really excellent. The only one who I had to say would not have been my casting choice was Russell Crowe... His acting was fine, of course, but his voice, well, just passable, I think.

I enjoyed it, but sort of wish I'd gone when it was less crowded... Sitting scrunched in, next to a bunch of 20-something guys (who clearly were there only for the girlfriends) did sort of take something away from it. I think this is definitely one that will go over best with a slightly older audience...

I read the book years ago and it has a lot of plot.

Does the movie have too many dull musical moments (like most musicals do)?

perhaps 40 spoken words in 2.5 hours. Opera is a dirty word, lol. My daughter tells me it's not opera if it's in english.

The renegade Mozart defied them, of course.

once Fantine dies, I'm done. Drags in the middle and a sad, sad story for the most part.

although Javert's narrow worldview is very familiar - he's a law-and-ordery republican-y tool.

It isn't that he can't sing the notes, but it is a passable voice, at best.

I had never read the book or seen the play so I wasn't familiar with the story at all. And I was STUNNED when Anne Hathaway's character died. I looked at my watch, it seemed like the movie had just started and I knew it was going to be long. And she was already dead?!?
