I was looking for a forum with dream interpreters, but I couldn't find anything appropriate so I'm posting this here....
Occasionally I have a dream that there is a burglar in the house, and I want to get up and do something about it, but I can't move.
I can hear the burglar entering the bedroom and getting closer, I try to move but I'm sleep-paralyzed, and can't get myself to completely wake up. I can manage to slightly move in slow motion but not fast enough to scare off the burglar. A few seconds after that I fall back asleep.
I'm not sure if I was really trying to move, or if I was just dreaming I was trying to move.
I think it's pretty obvious, that this must mean that I feel I don't have control over things in my life. Just wondering if there is anything else to this, and/or whether this is a common dream?

(12,401 posts)heh heh heh... I love Cosby. If laughter heals all ills then everyone should listen to his albums.
One time my hubby and I had a huge argument while we were out shopping. When we came home, the kids had the Cosby dvd (then a VCR) in the tv.
We stopped our argument at the door and watched the show; laughed until we were crying.
Once over we had to regroup and remember what we were arguing about, but it never did get off the ground again.
I think all war zones should show good comedy skits for stress relief and a proper perspective.

I mean, I'm married and I have people around me constantly, but I am very lonely. Nobody like me exists, I do not work or associate with anyone with similar interests. You must be a genius. How'd you figure that out?
Edit: I think I figured it out. The fact that I am posting here about my dreams, I must be lonely.

To dream of burglar means fears or difficult emotions arising from within you in a way that threatens you. To dream that you are a burglar means that your energy is being sucked away from you. You are feeling drained. It may also mean that your fears, guilt, and anxieties are making it hard for you to say no to others. To dream you overpower a burglar and reclaim your stolen item means your overcoming of a demonic attack in the natural through demon-infected people feeding their darker natures working against you. To dream a burglar is trying to break into your home or the place you're at and take something that belongs to you means deception, the illusion of lies and a betrayal in your workplace, marriage, relationship or family. For a women to dream of a burglar means that she has a fear of man and sex or a desire for a better relationship. For a men to dream that he is a burglar means that he wants to have sex with someone.

That's somewhat true. But aren't "lies and a betrayal in your workplace" par for the course? I thought that was normal. Perhaps I'm overly conscious of it or exaggerating it im my mind. And by me saying "perhaps," that's putting it lightly.
", marriage, relationship or family."
I think my marriage is fine. Family, yeah never trusted them. I really need therapy.

To dream that you have been burglarized indicates that you are feeling violated or that personal space has been invaded. You feel helpless in some situation or relationship. This could be due to a major change in your life. Give yourself some time to adjust to your new environment. The dream may also occur as a result of being burglarized in real life and a symptom of post traumatic stress.

Cant move dreams can have either psychological or physiological roots. Occurring during REM sleep, cant move dreams most often reflect feelings of being stuck or imprisoned in a dead end job or relationship. A frequently terrifying dream, it may also reflect negative feelings that you cannot escape, such as depression. Identify where you feel stuck in waking life, because your dream reflects a desire to be set free. Cant move dreams can also occur outside of REM sleep, and be reflective of a physiological issue such as sleep paralysis. The dreamer is caught between being asleep and being awake, giving the impression of being unable to move or being paralyzed. Read more about sleep paralysis.
Can't move in dream.?
I had a strange dream last night where I couldn't move at all on my bed. I couldn't see anywhere beyond my bed, just blurriness. I kept trying to move but nothing would move. Whenever these dreams happen, I always try to wake myself up within the dream. When it seems that I am awake I try to move again but still can't. Then suddenly I wake up freaked out. What does this dream mean? I don't usually dream a lot so I wouldn't know.

Answer:
Don't worry! We all have dreams like those. It is caused by natural paralising neurotransmitters that stop us from sleepwalking being relased while our brainwaves are in stage 1 sleep 'concious but asleep'. Your blurry vision was because your eyes were open but not able to focus due to paralysis.
Commonly people report being paralised on an operating table, abducted by aliens or being visited by deamons. It is nothing to stress about now, but is very frightening at the time.
If we didnt have these paralizing neurotransmitters we would sleepwalk, but as you know they are not 100% perfect and they can obviously kick in while we are supposed to be waking up!

(5,023 posts)Seems I'm just scared of my own shadow. Moverover, I am concerned about people in general having lack of control over their own lives. So I was wondering if this is a common feeling, if it is not perceived by most people, or if the problem just doesn't exist at all. From a political perspective I think the ultimate goal should be for people to have control over their own lives. This is something we should be very critical about, imo. Anyway, thanks for all that research.

(37,648 posts)Nothing more. But I've never experienced that.
Your dream seemed odd to me in that it wasn't very odd. My dreams, when I remember them, are so odd that they would be hard to describe, and generally contain several story lines and locations. It seems I travel a lot and do stuff in my dreams. Never a "can't move" moment!
The more disturbing ones generally involve water or falling....and sometimes both, falling into water (I have a water phobia), and sometimes include my ex or an old boyfriend, even if only in passing. Very disturbing.
But usu. I don't remember dreams at all. I sleep like a log.
