(9,385 posts)I'm very grateful for the hospitality of the Loungers, but I'm also very bummed and feel that most of us Metazens got a raw deal because of a few (who should've just been suspended from Meta if need be). I don't believe in criticizing behind anyone's back, so there it is...

This does suck lemons, I have to say. I'm probably going to go back to mostly lurking soon, and I really didn't want to or plan to do that. But I don't feel like I have much to say about anything, after being treated like this. Transparency to blackout; democracy to dictatorship really isn't ok with me. We're just s'posed to go on posting and pretend like this didn't happen? Well I can't do that.
If somebody gets mistreated now, we don't even know it. (I happened to see a clue to an instance of that in the Lounge today -- but not enough to know what it's about, as it has to be now.) We can't even agree with each other or support each other in what happens to us here because we aren't allowed to know about it. All the bad stuff is merely invisible now, and that doesn't solve a thing, it makes it worse because it gets pretty much of a free pass without general awareness of it. It just isn't ok with me.
And the worst of it is... the people who behaved the worst on Meta are the most glad that it's gone... and that pisses me off.
I like the site a lot, I like the admins a lot, and I like most of you guys a lot. But this was wrong, wrong, wrong. Sorry, I don't get treated like this and just say, "please, sir, can I have some more".
ETA: link fix

(18,101 posts)I actually laughed when I realized it was gone. It was a great idea, but we obviously can't have nice things. It started going off the rails early on and just kept getting worse. Admin tried to steer it in the right direction, but with the way they set up DU3, they couldn't go in with a heavy hand. When Skinner's thread about Meta not being exempt from community standards was pretty much ignored, I figured Meta's days were numbered. Some people were actually scoffing at the idea that Meta wasn't a special place for call-outs, pile-ons, and personal attacks. Too many people thought Meta was where community standards were set. Some of them still don't understand that their standards are not necessarily those of the community. All the outrage they could muster couldn't change that.
My point is - don't blame admin, it's our fault. I don't see how they could have done it any differently. If they had given us advance notice, it would have been a free for all. Could you imagine how that would have gone?

(71,265 posts)There needs to be an outlet for people to vent. I understand why they did what they did, but I am going through some serious Meta withdrawal. I did not realize that Meta was making some people's time at DU unpleasant and I regret that was the case. All things change and I think we will get through this but I do miss Meta.
Hope you are well and take care my friend.
