(72,300 posts)Leigh was always checking out what Pookie had dropped/thrown.
The chocolate lab is too shy to pick around under Pookie.

(41,991 posts)Pidge knows full well that if she throws food onto the floor Tucker and Merrily can't help but come running. If the cage is open she'll hang upside down like a bat and wait for them, then grab what fur she can while they're foraging. Honestly, with Pidge and Bunny the Cat around, the dogs are pretty much at the bottom of the food chain.

(72,300 posts)We had one living with us for 10 years until his owner moved. The bird had a vocabulary of over 500 words. He made jokes: Ask one of the dogs Want some? An older chocolate lab walked over wagging her tail. The Grey threw a candle off a nearby shelf and laughed as the lab bit the wax.

(41,991 posts)Give her something she doesn't want to eat and she flings it as hard as she can and gives this incredibly annoyed little squawk. She likes to burrow under the sofa cushions beside us and pop her head up and laugh. I don't know what her vocabulary is; it's an interesting mix of many human words and phrases, and sounds that makeup her communicative language and are easy to comprehend. For example, she likes a particular pair of shoes I have that squeak on the floor. When she sees them she makes the squeak. When I open the door to the outside she caws like the crows that she loves outside. When Game of Thrones comes on she caws like the ravens in the show, which she immediately took to. When we start down to the floor level she whistles for the dogs, anticipating that we're taking them for a walk. She identifies the dogs by their barks, and clearly knows who's who. One of her latest favorites is a sausage I've been eating that whistles when you microwave it. Let me start fixing breakfast and she starts the sausage whistle, all excited.
Yesterday she did something I have always sort of feared she would do. Our balcony overlooks a busy street, with many joggers of an afternoon. I was standing on the balcony when a gorgeous young man jogged by and, yep, she wolf whistled. It was pure coincidence but he gave me a look...
Wonderful, wonderful little soul.
