Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsAnyone else get a scam letter from "Delta" "skyrewards"
written by a non-existent vice-president named Marci Nye?
She informs us that we've qualified for an award of two free airplane tickets worth up to $1300. I'm not even going to call the number.
For one thing, the red triangle logo at the top doesn't match the Delta Airline's logo. For another, googling didn't show me any "Marci Nye" at Delta, or a vice-president of anything.
Always be careful when someone offers you something free for no good reason. It's usually a scam.

(16,334 posts)Delta and Amex finally gave up the ghost on the companion ticket scam. They made the vouchers nearly impossible to use without extra fees and they put ridiculous expiration dates on them. When they ended the program, they claimed not very many people were taking advantage of it. Wonder why?

Well, I had a nephew take one of those FREE cruises, lol. Turns out everything that wasn't included was extremely expensive. My econ teacher was right: there's no such thing as a free lunch.

(8,217 posts)That is the one that changed my flight multiple times and made me unable to get to my destination.
Never had anything that crazy before.

(2,682 posts)The one I got in the mail was US Airlines with the same phony "you've been selected" shit. I thought scammers gave up snail mail in favor of the internet and emails due to lower overhead costs.
I didn't have to think twice about its lack of authenticity -- phony-looking stationery, no prior connection to "US Airlines" (or any other airline - I don't fly), and the fact that when I worked in the legal department of an engineering company, all suspicious letters and emails were sent to me to verify. They were all fake and after a year of researching them (on and off) I advised the engineers to just dispose of them. So I took my own advice and tossed it.

(115,693 posts)This is probably a phishing scam to get people's credit card information.
Also, I'm a Delta retiree and can still access the employee website, so I took a look and couldn't find any vice presidents named Marci anything.

(1 post)I got the same letter today. The Delta symbol is wrong on the letterhead and the company named on the letterhead is Delta Skyrewards without any mailing information on the letterhead. This company doesn't exist and there's no Marci Nye, Vice President as noted in the closing signature. The letter came in an envelope without a return address and handwritten. Looks like a complete scam. It claims they've attempted to contact us several times and we now have 2 days to respond to the letter or we lose 2 roundtrip airline tickets valued up to $1,229.00 (Certain Restrictions apply). The phone # listed is 1-866-981-5907.
BEWARE!!!

(23,761 posts)I received a version of this letter yesterday. It was postmarked from Phoenix, with no return address and was addressed by hand. It read pretty much the same as your except the phone number was 1-866-996-3351 and the Vice President was Dina Kale.
I wonder how many people respond to these?

(28,749 posts)There was the company US Airlines and the familiar logo. The offer appeared to be pretty realistic, too. It informed him hed won 2 roundtrip tickets worth $1,298.
It was postmarked in Phoenix, Ariz., which is where an airline with a similar name is based.
But hes skeptical. Is this a scam? he asked me.
If you look closely youll spot a few red flags flapping in the wind.
There is no airline called US Airlines. There is a US Airways based in the Phoenix area.
The logo is nowhere close to US Airways logo, but it looks like an airline logo.
The sales verbiage is scammy.
* I did not watch the whole video it could get crazy, if it does let me know and I can remove it.

(8 posts)This is one of those travel club membership marketing gimmicks. The offer is conditional. You have to attend a scam sales presentation running into hours, together with your partner. So that one can be played against the other! You have to have a major credit card (so that you could be charged a large amount for the club!)

(108,978 posts)my husband and I fell for some stupid sales pitch (we attended but didn't buy), and we learned our lesson. Never again.

(27,247 posts)It was in a, um, famous desert resort, and someone offered me a $15 coupon for a local grocery store to listen to a pitch about some sort of "great" hotel offer. "Do you like to travel? Do you like to stay in fine hotels? Do you like to get big discounts for rental cars and other amenities? Join our club and you can have all that!" Finally, it came around to talking about the cost-- "Thirty-seven fifty!" "Thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents?" I thought. "Sounds like a good deal". However, when they said "Thirty-seven fifty", they meant $3,750
At least I got to keep the coupon

(4,475 posts)I just got something about this in the mail yesterday, and put it into a search engine to see if it was a scam, and lo and behold the first thing that came up was this thread on DU!
Mine looked like a check for $1800, but on closer examination it said it was a voucher and I had to call a number. It was signed by a "Dina" Somebody (but not the last name listed up thread).
The logo looked just like Delta Sky Miles (which I actually am a member of), but there is no such thing as "Sky Rewards".
After reading this thread, I tore it up and threw it in the round file. Who sends scams via snail mail anymore? I thought that went out with the Nigerian dodo.

(1 post)Got mine today, written by Aubrey Kholer vice president. Right, 2 free tickets to anywhere in the Continental US.
Like I'm really going to believe this one like all the other offers I receive.
Nothing is free folks, there just are no free rides!!
Don't believe anything you receive in the mail or you inbox.

(1 post)knowing full well this was a scam i called so i could actually speak to some piece of sh*t that works for a company like that. after sharing my opinion of his manhood and a few other descriptive terms, i decided to file a complaint with the ftc. occassionally, complaints make a difference. regardless, it felt good to unload on a worthless piece of crap after a hard stressful day at a real job.
