Is there a shrimp shortage.

They are pretty important in my eating plan, high quality protein, low calories, and I love shrimp.

The price has jumped dramatically in a few months - the 1lb bag of 50/60 I got back in June on sale for $4.99, regular $7.99 at Meijer is in sale now for $11.49, regular now $14.99.

Yikes, what gives?

Local shrimp here in south Florida are considered a winter "crop", plentiful in November - March. Perhaps in June you were getting a sale on the last frozen batch of the season, and now in October, the stock is pretty well sold out. No worries, shrimp like to show up on the coldest and nastiest night of the year!

14.99 for 50/60 farmed is insane. Wild, maybe if there are some problems. I think it's about 7.99 or 8.99 for farmed here in FL.
