Toaster ovens LIE! And they SUCK!

Last edited Thu Oct 3, 2013, 10:52 AM - Edit history (1)

I thought a toaster oven would cook smaller dishes with less power and $$$ than the big oven.
Not so.

I put an oven thermometer in my toaster oven, set the temp dial at 375.
The thermometer registered 250.
I turned the oven up to the max of 450.
The thermometer registered 250.

They suck at toasting bread too.
Take three times as long as a pop-up.

Wanna buy a slightly used toaster oven?
I'll make you a good deal.

That said, however, my Black'n'Decker toaster/oven gave out last year and it was withIN the warranty period AND *still* has NOT been replaced, on order from China or something. Been without toast all this time.

toaster ovens and only 1 could actually do what it claimed. And most of them could barely make toast.

They were basically unimpressed with all of them though.

Oh yeah, I do remember it was the most expensive at $350.

The B&D was totally reliable. I wore it out after many years.

Bought this GE one. Horrible. Never gets up to temp. Takes about 12 minutes to make a piece of toast.

I'm planning to ditch this one and buy a cheap B&D.

Their budget must limit them to six letters. Something has to go, and apparently the 'a' is like the redshirt on Star Trek...

Black and Decker that was working fine until the house got hit by lightning a couple of years ago and a bunch of stuff got ruined.

Replaced it with a Hamilton Beach, and I've been happy with it. In fact, I don't even use my stove oven (because it's broken) for anything but storage.

There are only two of us here and the toaster oven does a good job, even so that I can cook a turkey breast if I want.

If the regular "bake" setting isn't fast enough, I use the convection setting to finish up.

I use my toaster for toast.

...I just used mine.

It's a cheap little Black & Decker. Works GREAT. I just put in a slice of LaBrea Bakery Italian Bread, toasted one side, topped the other with Sargento Sharp Cheddar and melted it. Came out crispy, golden brown, perfect. It's also good for making one or two frozen egg rolls...nuking them always makes them soggy. Bagels are amazing (the local Smith's makes sesame seed bagels fresh on site daily).

My pop-up toaster makes toast WAY faster than the 'toaster' oven.
No toppings in the toaster, of course.
