left bowl of candy on porch

first time i ever had to do that.
in years past plenty of my neighbors would do that with a sign to take __ pieces. only once did one of the neighbors return home to an empty bowl.

so...i just thought...
the weather sucks--rain and at times, heavy rain
not a lot of decorations on the block this year (including my house)

i put the bowl out at 2:30
kids didn't start coming out until at least 3, maybe 3:30 (due to school)
so, in under two hours, a bowl with "290 pieces!" was fucking empty!

i guess someone wasn't reading my sign that said to take 4 pieces.

there were probably 20 kids in that time period--20 tops.

and i'm guessing someone got here early and just dumped the whole damn thing in their "bag" (i hope it breaks!)

and if it was the mailman--well, shame on him and i hope his bag breaks too.

or maybe i should look at it on the bright side--the bowl of 290 pieces of candy on my porch really made some kid's halloween memorable.

Whole thing was gone when we got home. I have no idea if it disappeared early or later in the evening. Never again. *grump*

My kid brother, a HS drama geek dating an actress and makeup artist at the time (he was a junior and she was 19), laid down in the corner of the porch made up as a scarecrow decoration perfectly still...I'm sure everybody sees where this is going...and when kids took too much candy, he'd spring to life, scare the shit out of them and chase them to the curb.

Trick or treat indeed!

Please take up to 4 pieces
If you take 5 or more pieces, Doggie gets very, very mad.

that runs on batteries and a sensor. The hand grabs their hand when they reach in the bowl. I've never tried leaving it out and don't use it for the little ones, big kids seem to like it.

290 pieces of candy! Someone had a sweet tooth!
