I didn't know anybody else was ... (I missed it in "inglorious bastards&quot

and it was because IT RHYMED ...

(and well after I was using it, "Dharma & Greg" pointed out that, yes, the "trophy" was of a goose, but goose didn't rhyme)

I first heard it on cop movie in the seventies. Some kid was hanging around the squad car being annoying and one of the cops tells him. "Hey kid, go fuck a duck!". I interpreted it as me as meaning "get lost", and I liked it so much I started employing the expression myself.

Don't remember the name of the movie, though.

Claimed that fucking a chicken was an semi-acceptable substitute, if you were really desperate. The only problem was it killed the chicken in the process. So "fuck a duck" may have come from that way of doing things.

BTW, this isn't a joke, I'm completely serious.

Fup
by Jim Dodge

Between these covers reside a twenty pound duck that won't fly, thirty miles of barbed-wire fencing, and several batches of illicit whiskey. Fup is a classic tale that celebrates all the amazing connections and pitfalls of rustic living. The story is set in the coastal hills of northern California between 1880 and the present. The plot revolves around Grandaddy Jake Santee who believes he is immortal, his grandson Tiny whose passion is building masterfully crafted fences even though they don't have any stock, and Fup, a hen mallard with a prodigious appetite. These three come together in a transcendent tale that has won international acclaim and the affection of thousands of readers.

"Tropic of Cancer"

That's the earliest use I've found but I wouldn't be surprised if it was older.
