New study finds men with attractive wives more satisfied in marriage

A new study recently published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology shows that men who feel they have more attractive wives report higher levels of marital satisfaction. The study, conducted by psychologist Andrea Meltzer, surveyed 450 newlywed couples over four years and asked if a more attractive spouse could lead to a happier union.

“The significant effect of wives’ attractiveness on husbands’ satisfaction was significantly stronger than the nonsignificant effect of husbands’ attractiveness on wives’ satisfaction, indicating that partner physical attractiveness played a larger role in predicting husbands’ marital satisfaction than it did in predicting wives’ marital satisfaction.”

Basically, what Meltzer is trying to say is that spousal attractiveness is apparently much more important for men than women.

Way to let me down, fellow members of my sex, but I guess you can’t argue with science.

4. Anecdotally, I suspected the inverse is true of heterosexual women.

My female friends with attractive husbands are seemingly always unhappy and convinced they're straying or taking affront to women flirting with their spouses. (Not their husbands flirting. Not with the flirtatious women but with their husbands.)

I'm glad no wife of mine will ever have to deal with that...I'm a solid 5. I'm everybody's definition of "meh" in the looks department.

The article suggests that husband attractiveness has no impact on marital satisfaction...I'm skeptical for the reasons above.

I've dated and been married to pretty men and 'average' men. Some may have been a tad below the accepted 'average' mark. I have never dated, nor married, stupid.

Smart is sexy. It ages well, also.

As a woman that has been labeled 'hot', etc. her entire life, I don't give a damn if a man is happy with me because I look good. It's genetics. I did not choose my appearance, but I actively pursue smart.

One more thing...Ron White is freakin' sexy as hell.

Even before she opens her mouth and says something mind-numbingly stupid, she's way too made up for my tastes. I tend to find that people who do that, are trying too hard to be attractive to actually be attractive.
