This blizzard has me feeling very trapped.

Not sure how many of you are aware I'm wheelchair-bound these days. I try not to let that slow me down too much, tho'- I usually take my Lady Puppy Girl out for walkies 3 or 4 times a day, depending on the weather (I use an electric wheelchair that is fast enough she can get up quite a head of steam when she wants). Obviously, when there's over a foot of snow on the ground, we're grounded for the duration.

How do you explain to a dog why she can't have walkies? I need it every bit as much as her- I'm determined to not just sit and stare at the walls day and night- but she can't figure out why we can't go play. She's limited to the back yard, and it's just not as fun as roaming the neighborhood with me.

I did go out earlier today to shovel off the porch and ramp, but by now it's all covered again. I did it because if I'd waited any longer the door would have been snowed shut. I'll have to do it again tomorrow. No biggie- it's great exercise. And you don't need legs to shovel snow- a good wheelchair is enough.

Still, I'm bored out of my skull, and so is Lady. She's been lying next to my bed all day with that sad look on her lovely face. And I can't tell her why it has to be this way.

Poor puppy girl...

He's a wounded warrior for whom a group of local HS students launched a project to build him a new home. Along the way, another group donated the tracked chair. It will come in handy getting around his new property and the neighborhood, which has no sidewalks so he'll be contending with dirt, rocks and mud.

Looks like much better temps are on the way to Dallas...snow won't last long at 60F.

Hang in there.

Now I'm in northern Indiana.

All things being equal, I REALLY wish I were still in Texas.

Do they plow the streets in your town? Or are they too busy for safety? Around here we amble down the middle of the street w/o a thought half the time, there's so little traffic. Of course that means there's not much of anything else either.

My retirement dream used to be to wind up in a Maine mountain tourist town, selling winter sleigh rides in a fancy carriage pulled by one of my Egyptian Arabian horses. Blankets, bells, plumes, the works. Would've been fun.

Meanwhile, are there any indoor games you can play with your dog on bad days? Before Molly Maguire guilted me into getting her a stepsister, she used to love to sit in my lap and watch nature shows on tv. She got really excited when she saw another dog. Now we can't do that because the JRT is so hyper she's almost spastic. It just turns into a wrestling match. So I put them on the floor because it wears me out.
