(1,819 posts)One of the reasons I love them so much is that the dough freezes well. Mr k and our son devour homemade cookies in an incredibly short amount of time. I make the dough and bake a couple dozen at a time.
Fond memories for me as well. My mom and I made these together when I was a child, and I still use her recipe.

(16,954 posts)There's nothing like picking up a decorated cookie that looks so pretty. Such a seasonal treat!
Partly I like them so much because I appreciate the effort and creativity that go into those decorations. My efforts tend to look like a third grader did them (my apologies to third graders!), so I really admire the care that goes into the decorating. If anyone here has some sugar cookie decorating tips and how you go about it, I would love to hear it.

(11,785 posts)and something my mother-in-law calls "Mrs. Claus' Brownies": a flat fudgy brownie, topped by a stiff American buttercream (I add mint extract and green food coloring), and a layer of chocolate.
Also, spritz cookies or shortbread, if it's homemade. I don't like the rock-hard commercial varieties.
