my call center boss is a real piece of work

Our normal 2nd shift hours are 1:15 - 10pm eastern time. I work just Monday, Tuesday and Fridays to add an extra person on their busier evenings. I've been waiting for them to send around an email or something looking for people to sign up for Christmas Eve if they need the money, or not if they choose to take the time, since business will be very slow and they can save money with just a skeleton crew on.

So tonight, the woman who sits across from me asked if I'd seen my schedule. Say, wha? I asked. Turns out that the other day, she went to the day manager to find out what they were doing re: Xmas Eve. Day manager told her that because the market closes early, we'll be shutting down at 3pm and to see our evening manager re: our schedules.

Turns out our boss went ahead and scheduled us all day for 6 hour daytime shifts without bothering to tell us, never mind consult with us regarding our availability off our normal shift.

The beeyotch scheduled me for 8am-2pm,without my prior knowledge or agreement, the day after working until 10pm. I travel possibly further than anyone else in our work group, and I have a farm with animals that need care. And we're getting an ice storm on Sunday and Monday, so I may be up late Monday night getting home and de-icing to make sure I can get into the barn Tuesday morning. As it is, I didn't even get home until 11pm during last Tuesdays snowstorm, and didn't get to bed until midnight. Dog forbid she should schedule one of the single, child and pet-free people that lives down the block and can literally walk there in 5 minutes.

No way I'm getting up at 5 am on Christmas Eve after being up until at least 11pm the night before (my normal bedtime after 2nd shift), if not later due to weather, so that I can race through caring for the animals and get to that crappy job at 8am and sit there taking no calls because very few people will be calling on Christmas Eve and -- hello -- they already have a full 1st shift team.

I think she's trying to drive us to either 1. quit, or 2. do something she can justify getting us fired for. If the woman sitting across for me hadn't said something, I never in a million years would have thought to look at next weeks schedule. Actually, I had looked at it last Tuesday and it wasn't yet changed, so this is totally a last minute stick in the eye.

I'm just calling in sick. I think I'll call the midnight before and leave a message.
