The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo how did you people come to DU?
I've been here since 2002. I came here because fark.com used to regularly link to the Top 10 Conservative Idiots list.
I remember when Skinner had Principal Skinner as an avatar.
I remember Fox's resulting legal threat.

(12,132 posts)I was tired of arguing with conservative co-workers (and some friends) and not having some facts to back me up so I started googling for info on stuff and DU kept appearing in results. After reading a few days I knew I needed to stay.
cyberswede
(26,117 posts)She had a regular DU column once upon a time. Great stuff.

(8,244 posts)I had started a petition online and I was looking for forums to tell people about it. Liked it so much I stayed.
I found DU because it is linked from The Young Turks homepage.

only discussion forum I knew of. It was a mixed board and got tired of the GOP roleplayers trying to muck up intelligent discourse by any means possible. People kept mentioning the DU. I joined in 2005.

I said I thought schwarzenegger was not as moral as some wanted to believe.

(13,921 posts)I was a regular reader at FDL, and then they changed their format, and it just was not working for me visually.
But in links, I found here. And it had a greater breadth. And a lounge. And I stuck around a while.

(12,254 posts)My good friend in DC introduced me to the site before he was banished forever. He tends to get hysterical at times but I love him anyway. Moving from Blue as Blue NY to the countryside in NC left me aching for some liberals (or at least Dems!) to talk to. We went to a Dem meeting for the county and met the other six Dems there... They opened and closed every meeting with a prayer. We are not Christian, so we didn't pray and even those folks stepped lightly around us. That spring, I finally signed up and joined. Been her ever since.
