I had like 30 bottles of different wines at Thanksgiving since than they're all gone. The combination of family and using wine to cook with probably did it

my mouth is watering now. We do home made soft tacos here in Korea. Thankgod for Costco. There are more Mexican restaurants then there were when I first got here. Recently Taco Bell started opening chains, but that stuff is just crap.

The spiked Michelada is a great drink!
My favorite rendition comes from NYC bar, PDT.

"A Beer and a smoke"

1/3 part celery salt
1/3 part coarse salt
1/3 part freshly ground pepper

Squeeze quarter lime around rim, coating outside of collins glass with lime juice.
Roll outside rim in salt/celery salt/pepper mixture

In a separate pint glass add:
1/2 oz lime juice,
1 oz good mezcal, Del Maguey Vida is what i use.
6 dashes tapatio
9 drops bittermans celery shrubb

Fill with ice, stir for 20 seconds, strain into the salt-rimmed tall collins glass.
Top with 6 oz Mexican lager or pilsner... double recipe for a tall beer glass, full 12 oz.

I use Tecate whenever possible, but a negro modelo would do.

serve with good chips & guacamole! yum

I got it last Xmas, and was saving it for a special occasion, like FINALLY getting a new fucking job. I didn't have anything like that happen, other than the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup win, but I never got around to opening it for that. So, what the hell...

Hanky Panky

1.5 oz St George Dry Rye Reposado Gin (barrel aged rye gin)
1.5 sweet vermouth (Cocchi di Torino)
2 dashes Fernet Branca

Stir all ingredients thoroughly with ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail coupe. Garnish with an orange twist.

Should taste like a Martinez but the 50/50 ratio of vermouth to gin, the orange peel garnish and the Fernet Branca changes the character of this cocktail enough to understand why it's not a Martinez...

Cheers!

But, I recently helped my buddy move, and he has a huge collection of wines and scotches, and he had no place to put them, so they're currently sitting in my dining room… plus, he gave me about 5 fifths of various Scotches as partial payment for helping him… tasty, tasty stuff..

Can't have too much though, I gotta work tomorrow.

Alone this Christmas eve, and I've had a little bit of everything it seems. During cooking a nice dinner ( and washing my car, whereabouts I nearly lost my fingers to frostbite ) I had 2 shots of Scotch whiskey. Then a glass of cabernet after dinner while looking at picture book. Then a 45 minute nap. Then a couple of boilermakers: A shot of Jameson's with a beer chaser while watching 'A Christmas Story'. A beer as a nightcap.

Good night all. All the best to my fellow DU-ers.

But there's nary a drop in the house.

There is, however, some Merlot to go with a late supper of grilled prime rib. I'll just have to suffer through it...
