The music/lyrics combo is terrifyingly deranged. Lori Bravo didn't write the lyrics supposedly, but her vocals are beyond sick, just inhuman...

or if they were just really getting into the horror aspect of story-telling..theme-wise there's not much difference between them and Clive Barker or H. P. Lovecraft...well, maybe a little nastier...
She also did the art-work for many of their albums

versus somebody like Dawn Crosby (Fear of God) who never conquered her demons, and in fact drank herself to death at a quite young age (30's).
