http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/16/super-bowl-prayer_n_4605665.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009That percentage includes Americans who pray for God to help their team (26 percent), think their team has been cursed (25 percent) or more generally believe God is involved in determining who wins on the court or in the field (19 percent). Overall, half of Americans fall into one of these groups, according to the survey Public Religion Research Institute released Tuesday.

(17,217 posts)... then it is perfectly logical, and in fact logically necessary, to believe that he determines sporting event outcomes. If nothing happens without his will, the rest follows naturally.
Of course, if you don't want to stipulate that this god-thing exists, then it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the incredible hubris and self-centeredness of people who think this way.

I'm a Chicago sports fan, including the Cubbies. I gave up prayer a long time ago.
I guess you could change that quote, "There are no Atheists in foxholes" to add, "...or during football season".

(34,582 posts)only two QBs have four rings- Montana and Bradshaw. As a lifelong Steelers fan, I want to keep it that way.
Ok, I will admit it- Brady is great, and if he goes all the way I wont begrudge him. I "sports hate" him. That is where you hate someone, but wished they played on your team

(58,719 posts)I suspect that most people who believe one of those propositions, believes one or more of the other one, too. I don't think you can just add up percentages like that in real statistical studies.
That a sizeable chunk of the pop believes this doesn't surprise me, though.

If your gawd pays more attention to the playoffs, guess what, I'm not praying to that guy. Not only that, but I'm calling everyone who continues to believe....an asshole with their head in the clouds.

(21,020 posts)I do not believe that "God" has anything to do with football games
However, I do (tongue-in-cheek) believe that there IS a "football god"
So really, anybody having a shitfit about the "real God" having better things to do than mess around with football games can relax.

(21,020 posts)on You Tube during Tebow's tenure in Denver that showed a Tebow pass to a receiver in the end zone being guided by this huge hand of God. I think the video also showed the hand striking down the defensive guys on the opposing team with lightning bolts.
It was a clip from a real game, just with the added details.
Funny as hell. I've looked for it, but no luck.
