It’s Not a Disney Movie: This Refuge in Arkansas is Home to 60 Animal Friends Who Hang Out Together

We’ve already showed you a collection of beautiful animal friendships from around the world, but there’s one little corner where there’s a whole lot of unexpected animal friendships all in one place. The Rocky Ridge Refuge in Arkansas is home to a huge bunch of animals, all of which seem to get along extraordinarily well.

The animal refuge was set up by owner Janice Wolf 20 years ago to help both wildlife and domestic animals in need of medical care or new homes. Up to 60 animals call the refuge home at any given time, although a few of those are long-term residents. These include Cheesecake the capybara, Crouton the African Sulcata tortoise, Barcode the zebra, Butterbean the bull terrier and Bazinga the miniature horse.

Even with all those animals, the most amazing thing about the refuge is probably the fact that it is a heroic one-woman effort. Wolf runs the refuge primarily on donations, although its new-found popularity on Facebook has allowed her to sell calendars as well.

2. I really don't know. I just discovered this place through an email my son sent.

I've been looking at the website and it seems that she does some really great rescue work. Some of the stories and pictures are really touching.

It is a Capybara, the largest rodent in the world.

Thank goodness it doesn't look like a mouse.
