The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm done with Yahoo email.
I've had an email address with Yahoo since 1998, but I'm going to spend a lot, a lot, a lot of time moving all contacts/signups over to another free email address.
The barrage of right-wing Yahoo Newsand even more so the racist, dumb-Tea Party comments have just pissed me off to the tipping point.
I just got done writing every four letter word I could think of replying to Yahoo comments about Obama. Folks, if you think Obama is a horrid president, go take a walk in the YahooNews comments marsh...you will come out a changed person. Believe me.
It's going to be a lot of work to change all my Yahoo email address/contacts/signups/etc, but it will be worth it.

(22,000 posts)I retain it only because I teach university and use it as a contact email for students (I don't like handing out my personal email address unless I have to).
Which one are you switching to?

(1,314 posts)but I'm going to look into setting it up with POP on Mac Mail.
Last time I checked (years ago) you had to pay a monthly fee to use Yahoo Mail with POP.
Thx!

(27,637 posts)If I want to go into a web based mode, such as I might want to do if I'm away from my desktop, then I can do that at my ISP's website.

(1,314 posts)Within minutes, I switched my Yahoo Mail accounts to Mac Mail.
Seriously, a few years ago, I googled this and found the only way to use Yahoo Mail on Mac Mail, Outlook, etc, was to upgrade your Yahoo mail, and pay a yearly fee.
This is great! I'm glad I brought this up on DU!
Thx!

(10,893 posts)is kind of a subtle indicator to the type of crowd that frequents its messaging board. Even Yahoo Answers is not safe from the Obama Derangement pandemic. Particularly in the "politics" section, it gets nasty there, as people either get called a "socialist" just for not being 100% on-board with trickle-down, or a "race-baiter" for highlighting racial tensions that still exist. Almost all of the RW answers get more thumbs up than thumbs down, while it's the opposite for LW answers. Sane people are utterly outnumbered in that section. I still sometimes search for questions (unrelated to politics) on there when I'm bored, but I quit posting on that site altogether.
