Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy wife has made a follow up appointment for Brody--The Cat.
My wife is concerned. She says when she pets Brody she is feeling his ribs and bones. I think he is gaining weight. When I lift him up he feels like he is gaining weight.
He is throwing bigger chunks of food and he won't touch hard food after trying to eat it and throwing it up.
His third eye lid is partly covering his eye still. Wife is concerned it my be nerve damage which in the long run isn't as bad because he is playing with our other cats.
The vet tech did suggest that Brody's throat may still be sore from the surgery which my wife was thinking as well but what my wife is concerned about is the fact that a friend/client of her who has had cats is concerned with Brody still losing weight even though he is eating the majority of 3 cans a day that he tumor was probably cancerous. We couldn't afford the biopsy because the surgery took more than the vet thought. The tumor was bigger than she first thought --we aren't blaming the vet we realized it was hard to determine how big the lump was.
But if he does have cancer we want to make him as happy and comfortable as possible until he starts to suffer. we don't want him to suffer.
I think my wife wants to know because she needs to prepare herself. She loves all our cats but Brody has her wrapped around her paw. He has laid on her while she is sleep and he is laying there like a Sphinx guarding her. This cat will follow her from room to room and I jokingly call him "her lover" because he is always nuzzling her and petting her. When she comes home from work 9 times out of 10 she has to kneel down in front of the bed while he jumps up onto the bed and "pets" her face and he'll even bashed his head into her lips as a way of getting kiss. He even touches his little "lips"/closed mouth to her lips.
We have this high calorie paste that we have tried to get Brody to eat but he hates it. We have mixed it in soft food gotten a syringe and pushed it into his mouth but he spits it out. any suggestions?

(115,757 posts)Try meat baby food (without other stuff in it, especially onion), like chicken or beef. Good luck and good vibes to Brody.

(20,453 posts)He's a senior (17 yrs now) and he has a prolapsed lower colon that makes poop difficult at times, so we balance his diet to be smooth on his GI track with things like stool softeners, but as far as supplements go, chicken flavored high caloric goo is the only flavor he'll eat, and he'll only eat it from me, not MM's dad. He loves Gerber's 2nd food's chicken and chicken gravy.
We also give him tuna juice when we make tuna fish sandwiches and I give him as much fat from any kind of fish, when we rarely have salmon.

(27,452 posts)Smelly, oily, sardines. Give that a try. Tuna in oil is also pretty good.
When my Scully was very sick I put a steak in the freezer and shaved off very thin pieces for her, raw. It was the only thing she would eat.
Good luck with Brody. It's really hard when they are suffering and you don't know what to do to fix it.

(3,121 posts)in mud. His under coat is brown and the "top coat" as my wife says has grays blacks and white but as a young kitten the brown was dominate and looked like he rolled in mud so looking for a good name for him my wife came across Brody which means muddy in Gaelic.

(14,691 posts)my cat's been in the cat hospital for more than a week while the vets attempted to determine why he's severely anemic. The vets suspect has cancer (ultrasound showed mesenteric thickening). Among the pills he's been getting are Pepcid and prednisone. He was just picking at food before hospitalization. However, I've been told every day that he's been eating very heartily. I think it's because of the meds.
I'm bringing him home tomorrow to keep him comfy till it's time.
