I haven't seen any posts from him in a long time. I did a search back to Jan. 1 and got no results.
Maybe he is stuck in a snowdrift or something! He lives in the backwoods somewhere in Canada.
CC, where are you???

(68,644 posts)I think it's one of those cases where you step over the line and then you're toast.

Me, I was all like "Fuck the Olympics, especially with this gay banning shit" but I was hating the Olympics anyway.
I have no idea why the member would want to defend the "games".
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)There is a thread on CC in MIRT.
I stayed away from the Olympics threads.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)Do you have a link you can send by PM?
And, like you, I was not interested in the Olympics drama.

(72,300 posts)I can't find the thread. It's somewhere around pages 15 to 17.
Sending you a link to the actual bann notification.

(16,334 posts)guess I missed all of that. Some people just choose to post less but I don't always check to see if they'd been PPR'd.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)It is pretty offensive, but this POV is not uncommon among especially older folks. Honestly, I don't know that I'd ban a person for it but I'm not surprised if that's what happened.
It's got that "some of my best friends" thing going and a whole lot more. Who knows.
This is their last post, AFAIK: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1017&pid=172824
FWIW, I don't recall that member being a problem, and I do remember administrative decisions that were a bit harsh and were even reversed.
Who remembers, for example, that MiddleFingerMom was banned for what was deemed a homophobic post?
If Canuck deserved it, that's fine. I just never saw it.
avebury
(10,952 posts)tad extreme. I have seen a lot worse posts then that which did not result in someone being PPRd.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)A singular post doesn't ordinarily do it, but a series of posts (and hidden posts are recorded forever) may result in action.
As I wrote above, a most beloved member who recently passed, MiddleFingerMom, was banned and then reinstated for a post that many found to be homophobic but the intention was never there. It was more of a bad judgement call on MFM's part.
RIP MFM.

(68,644 posts)For a fucking commercialized no-ender and, in this event, a homophobic clusterfuck.
They went too far, too bad for them and I won't shed a tear as their rationale is a meaningless one, I don't care about international competitions that are supported by corporations. Fuck them all.

(45,850 posts)I could not say I boycott chik-fil-a I wouldn't eat there anyway same with the Olympics I don't watch them in any event-to claim boycott just seems bandwagon jumping

(68,644 posts)It could considered offensive if you haven't been exposed to the snarky and self-effacing Westwood Santa Monica demographic of which Daniel Tosh is a part.

(68,644 posts)And that was a mistake.
I don't have the posting history of ConcernedCanuk, but I kinda feel like if they were a troll we'd all know it by now.
That post about the olympics is certainly inappropriate, unkind, insensitive, and more, but I'm not sure if it, by itself, is ban-worthy.
If there are other indications of homophobia or trollish behavior then I hope people will post them.
I'm unconvinced.

(5,604 posts)Especially in such a summary fashion, when by contrast, nasty and relentless agitators rack up hidden posts and get a 90 day suspension. Unless I'm missing something.
Behind the Aegis
(53,987 posts)CC was very clear, and it wasn't the first time, his opinions of GLBT people was not very high, despite his "best friend's" caveat. His post wasn't "inappropriate, unkind, insensitive, and more" is was flat-out bigoted! Claiming gay people are "shoving their agenda in his face" is the type of shit one would see on a right-wing site, if need be, I can pull many examples.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)I'm fine with the PPR of CC, I'm just trying to let the community know that it's a work in progress, this whole community monitored thing.
I think you get where I'm coming from...

(46,436 posts)I didn't realize he'd been PPRed. I'm not sure why that keeps happening to my best friends. I've lost many.
